How realistic is this?

Hi, I have been tossing some ideas around and would love some feedback from all of you.

I am currently married w/ one chiild (under age 1) and working full time (in a carrer outside of teaching). How realistic would it be for me to go back to school and continue working? Also if I student teach, would I have to stop working all together. My job currently is 8:30 to 5:30. Do you student teach a period(s). Theorectically I could come in late, but within reason. Has anyone done this. Could I possibly complete my masters in two years (already have my BA).

TIA

You could go to class at night and still work. Student teaching is like a fulltime job and you would not be able to keep those hours if you student taught. I had to be there the same schedule as the teachers when I student taught (I student taught elem ed).

Look into Cite with Touro College. That is how I changed careers to teaching. Took most classes on the weekend. I eventually quit and substitute taught and they counted that as my student teaching.

It's possible to do the schooling part with those hours. I'd suggest 1 maybe 2 classes per semester. The great thing about Masters Degrees is that many classes are at night. And they understand you are older and have more responsibilities.

As for the student teaching part, you will have to leave your job unless it offers night hours. I waitressed while I student taught because it was one of the few things I could do AFTER 3.

Good luck to you!

I waitressed too- there were quite a few of us who were student teachers at my job!

It's definitely doable- good luck!
