Q about Kongs and peanut butter
I read a lot about Kongs and bought one this weekend. I didn't buy the treats for it though, figuring I could put peanut butter inside like people suggested.
However, while I was on line, I struck up a conversation with a woman who said peanut butter snacks had upset her dog's stomach.
I'm wondering if the high oil content in PB could cause that and if I shouldn't even get into that with the Kong. Not to mention, that's got to leave a mess, right?
What do you put in your dog's Kong and do you think I should stay away from peanut butter altogether?

All you can do and see how your dog reacts. Dogs may like it, but if a few hours later you notice a change in their demeanor and nothing else has been given to the dog, I would stop the PB.
They do make peanut butter falvored kong snacks to try as well instead of full PB. They're at PetSmart. I have never seen them at Petco.

we put ziggies in dogs kong. but.........
we do give our dog peanut butter in something else...... and he is fine. he absoultely loves it.

We put PB in the kong all the time & she loves it!! She has never had any reaction to it, maybe you can try giving her a little and see what happens.

We put PB in the kongs and both Arnold and Shelby love it; they've never had a bad reaction.
As for a mess, we've never had a problem, it stays in the kong but if you want you can freeze it which will definitely keep it in the kong, not to mention it will last longer.
The only thing I recommend is that you make sure the kong stays in the house. Otherwise then it can get gross... we found this out the hard way.

we use low fat peanut butter (Murray has a bit of a weight problem) He loves it. It doesnt really make a mess and he licks the inside of the kong clean!

We use a low fat PB as well, except we put it in a hollow bone instead of the kong (same idea as kong though). Anyway, our dog loves it. We never had any gastro problems to date. Just be careful cause PB is high in fat so you could see a weight gin if you give him too much.

My dog throws up every time I give her peanut butter! It took a while to figure out what it was but now I know the poor little girl can't have it

Mine got an upset tummy from the peanut butter so I just got little treats that would fit in the Kong. You can try to see if your dog can take the peanut butter because I know some dogs aren't really fazed but the upsettingness.

My girls have no problem with pb. We put it in the kong or sometimes I just give them a spoon with pg on it. They never make a mess and make sure they get all of it.
Inside the kong, I sometimes put treats. They will spend forever trying to get that treat out!!!

You just have to try and see if his stomach likes it. Since he's not a puppy you've got a stronger stomach to work with. What's the worse that could happen? He gets the runs or throws up once. Granted you don't want that to happen but even giving dogs treats could upset their stomach. Also check with the breeder...see if he has a sensitive stomach.

Too much PB at first can upset the tummy. Start off with a small amount and gradually increase.
Our baby LOVES PB! We can't make a sandwich for ourselves w/o him going to lay down and be a good boy
