Anyone familiar with how much L&D costs at...

NY Presbyterian??

I think we know what insurance covers-- but, we need to determine how much it actually costs at the hospital.

bumping for daytime crew.

Just looking for a ballpark range.

My best friend delivered there in Feb, but her insurance is just a $500 deductible and nothing else.

Mine appears to be a $250 deductible, and then 10% of the balance.

I will let you know - My DH is looking into it for us too - He's a financial administrator for the whole NY Presby hosptial system, but wants me to go to Cornell - But we're not sure if the cost is really worth it as long as my pregnancy is farily 'normal' so to speak -

Just an FYI re: Presby, unless you're high risk, or there is God forbid a problem with the baby - you deliver at the Allen Pavillion (?) which is ALL the way uptown .........

I guess you'll get a deal!

I am high-risk and my OB is actually IN the hospital anyway. I don't think there is anywhere else where he would deliver. I believe he is head of OB/GYN for the hospital.

I know other people who have delivered there who were not high risk though-- or were not considered high risk for their first pregnancies.

It depends on what you have done.......How long you are there for, and medication given, anethesiology fees. If they are in house or called in...... any complications etc...........It varys greatly from person to person.....

I totally get that-- just trying to understand if the total cost is like $5,000 or $25,000.

Because of the 10%, it could be a real wild card.

I guess the best thing for me to know at this point, is the worst case scenario cost. C-section, 4 days in the hospital, etc.

You can try asking the billing office for average vaginal delivery costs and average c-section costs with no complications............. If you have to factor NICU care then it starts going up like crazy.

You should be able to pay the 10% using a payment plan as well. I don't think you are expected to pay it all upfront........

I'll be delivering at NYP-Cornell also, I asked my dr. (my ob is from Cornell Medical Associates on 80th and 3rd) and the ballpark range she gave me just for "her" services was somewhere around 9K. That of course doesn't include your stay at NYP, and any other drs who work on you, check you, stick you with anything, etc. She told me to call L&D accounting but I haven't yet.

ETA: I also need to know because my insurance only covers 80%. We have to pay 20%.

Also, my OB told me I'd be delivering right there at 68th St, near where I went for my ultrascreen on the 7th floor. And I'm not high risk. She never mentioned going uptown....Chat Icon

Chat Icon It's ok - I said in my original post that DH preferred I go to Cornell - So I guess I wasn't very clear. - But yes, it's Columbia, not Cornell that he said I'd be up in the boonies rather than where I'd normally go for visits/sonos etc. - I don't know why .........neither did he Chat Icon

One of my friends is an L&D nurse at Columbia. She's fantastic...I hope you get her in your delivery, I told her I wished she worked at Cornell. If you remember come the time, her name is Angelica. Chat Icon

I would highly recommend my whole practice, any of the drs are great. They're on the east side at 80th and 3rd if that's convenient for you, but they also have a west side office at 72nd and Park if that works better. Both office deliver at Cornell.

I can see if my DH kept anything on my stay - I delivered there I had a csection after a failed labor (I never progressed past 7-7 1/2 cm). I had a private room.

Basically my insurance covered everything so I didn't have to pay anything OOP. Who is your OB I was HR. I didn't go to NYP for regular visits though I use the 60th street office

Yeah-- that happened to two of my friends-- but they each delivered a few years ago. One of them just had her second in Feb, but I guess didn't really know the total costs since she didn't have to pay attention.

My doc is Dr. Zervoudakis. He is right there on the first floor of the hospital-- along with a couple other OBs.
