If you had a late teether...

When did they actually start the teething process, and when did they finally cut their first tooth?

Mine is 10.5 m and still no teeth!

It's hard to say because DD really had no big teething symptoms--maybe because she got the first one so late. She was 12 months when she got her first tooth!

Connor was a serious drooler from 3 months on. Cut his first tooth at the end of his 10th month.

i don't know what is considered late, but Jiavana's first tooth broke through last week also. She is 7 mths and has been drooling/chomping on everything since about 3 mths.

It's hard to tell when Roman first started, maybe 6 months? He only just got his first two teeth (at the same time) at 12 1/2 months.

Ellie started drooling and chewing on everything at 2.5 mos and her first 2 teeth are coming in together now at 10 mos. They started the end of last week and they're broken through the gum but not all the way in yet. It's been the slowest process ever! Chat Icon

Jake didn't really show teething symptoms so it's hard to say when it began. But his first tooth didn't come in until 10 months. With his molars...there were definitely symptoms.

Re: If you had a late teether...

I had two late teethers. My oldest didn't get a tooth until 13 months and my little one until 15 months. They were however showing signs of teething for a few months prior to actually cutting a tooth.

Oh dear - DS is 7.5 months and has been chomping on *everything* (including various limbs of his parents!) for months. I keep looking for teeth - didn't realize it could take this long!

Re: If you had a late teether...

Shortly after her 1st birthday she got her first 2 teeth within a couple of week of each other. She got the bottom two then the top two and for months that was it. Now at 18 months she has those 4 and 4 molars. She's still missing the ones just in front of the molars. Honestly part of me is glad she's a late teether. I feel like it's been a lot easier than some of the horror stories I hear from mom's with young teethers.

oh wow - I was hoping my 2nd would be easier - but this doesn't give me hope...lol

My doctor told me my son was teething at 5-6 months - I remember them lookin gin his mouth and saying look at all these teeth in those gums. No tooth popped until 13.5 months and then got 4 in a month. And lsowly the rest came in every few months or so. Now at 2, we are still waiting for about 8 more teeth where as most kids by now are pretty much finished...It has been a long, painful process for us.

The only good news is that when they put teeth in late, they tend to lose them late. I've been told that this bodes well for the strength and health of their grown up teeth. My 9 year old has only lost 5 teeth, so while some of her friends are at the beginning stages of starting braces we are no where near that discussion.

Re: If you had a late teether...

teething typically occurs 6-8 months old but there are lots of kids in the 8-12 month range and breast fed babies typically teeth later too!Chat Icon If it is a real concern you can see a pediatric dentist and if they can get an x-ray they can make sure the teeth are not blocked and are present but I would wait until after 12 months before I was truly upset!
