Zimmerman verdict about to be read!

I just wished Trayvon had stood his ground, after he was stalked by this man. I would have loved to hear the outcome of this trial!

They said the incident happened around 7pm at night in February in which it was dark and he might not have see his color. Second my husband is white and wears hoodies and you cannot tell what his race is.

I just read this

The Retreat at Twin Lakes is a 260-unit gated townhome community in Sanford, Florida.[79][80] The population in the development at the time of the shooting, was about 49% non-Hispanic white, 23% Hispanic (of any race), 20% black, and 5% Asian, according to Census figures.[67] Both George Zimmerman and Tracy Martin's fiancee were renting homes in the development when the shooting occurred.[45] At the time of the shooting, Martin had been staying with his father's fiancee at The Retreat.[11]
From January 1, 2011 through February 26, 2012, police were called to The Retreat at Twin Lakes 402 times.[67] During the 18 months preceding the February 26 shooting, Zimmerman called the non-emergency police line seven times. On five of those calls, Zimmerman reported suspicious looking men in the area, but never offered the men's race without first being asked by the dispatcher.[81][82][83] Crimes committed at The Retreat in the year prior to Martin's death included eight burglaries, nine thefts, and one shooting.[84] Twin Lakes residents said there were dozens of reports of attempted break-ins, which had created an atmosphere of fear in their neighborhood.[4]
In September 2011, the Twin Lakes residents held an organizational meeting to create a neighborhood watch program. Zimmerman was selected by neighbors as the program's coordinator, according to Wendy Dorival, Neighborhood Watch organizer for the Sanford Police Department.[7][7][85]
Three weeks prior to the shooting, on February 2, 2012, Zimmerman called police to report a young man peering into the windows of an empty Twin Lakes home. Zimmerman was told a police car was on the way and he waited for their arrival. By the time police arrived, the suspect had fled. On February 6, workers witnessed two young black men lingering in the yard of a Twin Lakes resident around the same time her home was burglarized. A new laptop and some gold jewelry were stolen. The next day police discovered the stolen laptop in the backpack of a young black man, which led to his arrest. Zimmerman identified this young man as the same person he had spotted peering into windows on February 2.[4]
Zimmerman had been licensed to carry a firearm since November 2009. In response to Zimmerman's multiple reports regarding a loose pit bull in the Twin Lakes neighborhood, a Seminole County Animal Services officer advised Zimmerman to "get a gun", according to a friend, rather than rely on pepper spray to fend off the pit bull, which on one occasion had cornered his wife.[4] Although neighborhood watch volunteers are not encouraged to carry weapons, Sanford Police Chief Bill Lee acknowledged that Zimmerman had a legal right to carry his firearm on the night of the shooting.[67]

I wish I lived in a world where I could believe it wasnt about color.

Re: Zimmerman verdict about to be read!

Based on how the state presented it's case with all the evidence they had I can see how the jury came with this verdict. I don't believe the state proved its case by the law they had to go by (emotions aside).

Would anyone agree with me that "IF" GZ never fired a shot, continued to get beaten until TM walked away the police on finally arriving to GZ initial call to get there the night would have resulted in arresting TM for assault?

I also don't believe GZ is a racist. I do believe he profiled TM based on the past issues in that particular residence.

Re: Zimmerman verdict about to be read!

This may help in understanding what the jurors had to deliberate. Just read this from the CNN site (I just did a copy and paste...)

The jury had three choices: to find Zimmerman guilty of second-degree murder; to find him guilty of a lesser charge of manslaughter; or to find him not guilty.

For second-degree murder, the jurors would have had to believe that Martin's unlawful killing was "done from ill will, hatred, spite or an evil intent" and would be "of such a nature that the act itself indicates an indifference to human life."

What led jurors to this verdict?

To convict Zimmerman of manslaughter, the jurors would have had to believe he "intentionally committed an act or acts that caused the death of Trayvon Martin." That charge could have carried a sentence of up to 30 years in prison, though the jury was not told of that possible sentence.

Ultimately, they believed Zimmerman wasn't guilty of either charge. None of the jurors wanted to speak to the media after the verdict.

How do we know TM wouldn't have been let go because he'd have been standing his ground?

I also find it interesting that George Zimmerman felt his injuries were so severe he feared for his life, yet he never went to the hospital, went to his Dr the next day, and showed no signs of a concussion. If you're getting your head pounded into the pavement 25-30 times (which he claimed), you'd have a concussion, or be extremely dazed and confused at the very least. I think there is A LOT more to what happened that night than what GZ said.

If I decide to kill anyone, you can bet your ass I'm going to Florida to do it!

Only if you are white though!!

I thought he was Hispanic?

Yes, , he is, and this case wasn't about race AT ALL despite what the media hyped it up to be.

I agree that the case had nothing to do with race. There simply was not enough evidence presented by prosecution to convict Zimmerman.

I hate how the media has made this all about race. I hate how much air time has been wasted on this case. I believe the outcome would have been the same if the killed teenager was white, Hispanic, black or Asian.

Not surprised. I watched the trial and did not feel the prosecution proved its' case beyond a reasonable doubt.

I feel the same way.

You cannot say it was NOT about race either, because you just don't know.

I though highly doubt he would have followed a white guy. I just don't believe it. But I and everyone else will never know what would have happened.

This case is about whatever issue is important to you ( race, guns etc). To me it is about race, I wonder what about Trayvon makes him look suspicious. He was unarmed on a cellphone call. Yet he was followed and harassed, by a grown man and ended up dead.
You feel that air time was WASTEd on this, we'll it wakes me up and I need to start thinking about that horrible conversation that i need to have with my son about the world he is growing up in. The outcome would have been the same no matter what the race is, well it was about a black kid. walking home with skittles and ice tea and was deemed suspicious and ended up dead.

I read recently that one of George Zimmerman's grandparents was African-Peruvian.

I meant that the verdict was based on evidence, not race.

You can be racist against your own race believe it or not!! All because he, GZ, has Afro-Peruvian in his background does not exempt him from being a racist against African-Americans. I went to school with a girl who was part black and Indian and was in denial of being part black. Even though her older sister and even her mom insisted she was. She tried to disassociate herself from it.

I really could not believe this. Chat Icon I truly believe he is guilty of murder, but I thought they'd at least go for manslaughter. Horrific.
