We have hardwood floors throught our home, but decided to put a plush rug in the master bedroom. We love it!

We have hard wood floors throughout most of the house (kitchens and bathrooms are tiled). The living room carpet was gross so we ripped it up and are replacing it with hardwood as well. The den has brand new carpet so we are living with that for now and when that starts to look ratty we'll replace that with hardwood.
IMO I would say if you have a pet and/or allergies hardwood is the way to go. So much easier and less costly over the long run to keep clean. I've lived with both and will never go back to wall to wall carpet.

i have allergies...so we went with hardwood.
although i DO want to put down an area rug in the sitting area of our bedroom.

My feet get soooo cold on hardwood floors that I need carpet for comfort. If my feet are exposed for even a little bit they become like ice. So I voted for carpet.

wood with an area rug for me. We have carpet in our office(because it was new & we didn't feel like ripping it out) and in our basement family room. That's it.

Our entire upper level of the house, which includes 3 of the 4 bedrooms is all hardwood flooring. Its not cold, we have excellent insulation on the underside of it all.

Honestly my vote goes for the hard wood floors. especially if your going to sell the house. Hard wood floors will increase the value of the house.

We are ripping out the rugs and putting down hard wood floors. In the master bedroom we have a rug, its new only 2 yrs old so we will leave it for now.
