WWYD-Thinking ahead on Twins 1st bday

so im trying to do some planning ahead,
yep for July. Im sick I know.

My plan is a Circus/Carnival theme.
July babies, so its SUMMER babies Chat Icon

My options-
Guest list of at least 75

My house, my big yard, Outside- rent tables, rent outside things to do to make it a circus theme-games, clowm, petting zoo etc.
Catered Food- Hired Waitress.

Issues Im having- Weather, ppl in my house (not for bathroom just ppl going in to hang out) and cost in the end.

or

-Hall, indoor, AC - no charge, no tables to rent. Included
-Hire waitress/cater food
Clown, possible set up for games etc but minimal.
-no petting zoo.

Issues, not being outside, not as grand as I would like it to be for games and fun. Same place where I had my DD's 1st bday, so same location- not different.

Errrrrr, torn!

Re: WWYD-Thinking ahead on Twins 1st bday

Okay lack of sleep here but I am reading this as their 41st birthday!!! I assume you are not that organised so if its for their 1st birthday I would go with the catering hall allllllllllllll the way. No guarantee for weather in july - could rain, be really humid and uncomfortable etc etc

Re: WWYD-Thinking ahead on Twins 1st bday

I think your backyard sounds like soo much fun but I know what you mean in terms of having people in the house.. Do you think you'd have alot in your house being that you have so much going on outside? I think that so long as the focus and primary location of your party is outside, than it shouldn't be too big of a problem other than people using the bathroom.

Definitely OUTSIDE!!

I love, love, love outside summer parties.

Your plans sound so much fun!

And I agree, with so much going on outside, only the older people would probably venture inside.

I say go for the backyard...if you see the weather is going to be a bust...rent a tent! We love having backyard parties...no time constraints, very relax feel...order a helper (waitress, bartender, etc) if you feel it will be too much! Your ideas for the backyard party seem really cool and fun! Chat Icon Chat Icon

Outside!!!!!

Let me know if you want the # for the game booth rentals that I had for Ant's 1st birthday.

ETA: my cousin did a carnival theme at had it at the same place you would have it at. She had game booths, small bouncer, clown, cartoonist, hot dog cart and hot pretzel cart.

My vote is OUTSIDE! Rent one of those big circus tents so that in case it rains everyone can hang out underneath, or two smaller tents. That way, you can have the petting zoo as well. And in July, even if it rains, its a little bit of rain here or there.

It sounds so exciting! I totally think you should do in your house and outside!

Re: WWYD-Thinking ahead on Twins 1st bday

I did a huge party for DS and it was at my home. I rented a tent did the whole 9 yards and YUP it rained. UGH. I would suggest to have it at a hall. I learned my lesson. It could get very hot in July and trust me, it'll cost you just as much.

Re: WWYD-Thinking ahead on Twins 1st bday

I vote for your house/backyard. I wish I had a big enough house or even just a backyard to have parties.

You can also do a park, DH's cousin did a huge bday party carnival theme at a park a few months ago... pony rides, animal show, a carousel, train rides, face painters, clown/acrobat show, bounce houses, the works!

Here's a pic:

I would go for inside. AC will be great if it is very hot. And with the summer thunderstorms that can pop up at anytime, you won't have to worry about having 75 people in your house during it..That would be my luck though..It is best to write down the pro's and con's for both and see what you come up with...

You've been planning this party in your head for a year.. didn't you always envision it in your yard? I'd stick with what you have in mind.

I'm excited to plan my first ever back yard party. Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: WWYD-Thinking ahead on Twins 1st bday

My vote is inside.....while I love the idea of the whole outside carnival/circus.... I think its going to be a lot more work for YOU. At a hall everything is there and no matter what the weather is, you are okay. Also, having 75 people going in and out of my house would drive me nuts.... especially if its a hot day and everyone is clamoring for the air condition.

DD is also a July baby and all her parties have been in the backyard. Last year was the first year I rented a tent because there was a chance of showers. It ended up raining a little in the morning and that was it.
I noticed that if EVERYONE is outside no one will want to be inside alone. They will go in to use the bathroom and then linger a few minutes and go back out.

What your planning sounds like a lot of fun and I would do it outside.

I say do it at the place you did it for G. You have three kids...even with servers you are going to be running around and then there's the cleanup at night.

Take it out of the house and deal with it there. Enjoy the day with your munchkins and leave the work to someone else!

I am setting up a game table (otherwise the games will be at each table with kids) and you are welcome to use any of the games that make it back without missing pieces (Connect 4, Memory, Operation, Chutes and Ladders, Guess Who, etc)

Re: WWYD-Thinking ahead on Twins 1st bday

WIthout a doubt, OUTSIDE! I think that it is perfect (that is our plan for both boys parties this year). Unfortunately the weather is ALWAYS an issue. But as long as there is not a monsoon outside, I would think that the tents would keep people outside even if it is rainy out. Or what if you picked a rain date just in case.

I think that the idea of the petting zoo really intriques me & I think that it will be a great way to celebrate the boys!

Outside!! We had 60 people for DD first birthday in October & everyone was outside. No issues w/ people hanging out in the house.
