WR - Problem with vendor- WWYD - UPDATED in first post

She wrote me an email at like 4am saying she was discussing her day with her husband and when he asked her how much money it was she realized she was being ridiculous and is taking it off my bill.

I think I'm going to let it lie now.

Thanks! I think this was a fun discussion!

Re: WR - Problem with vendor- WWYD

So in other words, she will eat the fee and consider it a loss because there isn't any word of it regarding the contract? Is that what she is saying?

As a business owner, it is my duty to make sure that the client is happy... of course, there are going to be times where there are things that are out of our control that will happen but in this case, it was her fault and she needs to step up and take action and eat that cost.. plain and simple.. I would never want my customer to have to pay for MY mistake.. and I would also want that customer's repeat business and a good referral..

Well basically she's saying she'll eat the fee IF I'm going to not do the right thing and "take advantage" of a loophole.

I am just FUMING right now. I don't know how to respond. It's not a lot of money but I don't like the way I'm being treated. I also don't want to start a fight with someone who already has $500 of my money and is currently printing my wedding invitations

Honestly, the email they sent was a nice way of saying, "Hey look...if you make a stink about it, we will not charge you ($.00 instead of $.50) but you know that is what you were supposed to pay and that you SHOULD pay.

In this instance, I would agree. I dont go out of my way to get something for nothing. you were going ot pay it anyway just because they messed up on their invoice doesnt MORALLY relieve you from paying

If she had said "oh oops. I'm sorry Jenn, I realized I made a mistake on your quote, It's actually supposed to be..." I'd have a different opinion. I feel like she tried to SNEAK it in, and now she's being passive aggressive about it.

Why not offer to split the difference? Since technically it is what you are supposed to pay anyway, you are still making out on the deal.

This is what I will most likely do, though I think legally I am 100% in the right here. She accepted my materials fees check weeks ago.

I just don't even know how to respond to how rude she's being and the fact that she tried to SNEAK the fee in there instead of being up front about it

Re: WR - Problem with vendor- WWYD

Everyone is human and makes mistakes. Me, personally I would pay it and be done with it.

I found the email response to be professional and direct so that there is no miscommunication.

I'm also a wedding planner and our company does provide invitations/stationary needs and I would have handled it exactly the way they did.

You would have snuck in the fee to another invoice and not mentioned it at all to the bride until she asked?

I hope not!

Is it a mistake - that she left it out of the first invoice, and then added it to the second stating that it's materials? If so, I don't think it's sneaky.

However, if she did not state that it was "materials" fee and just up-charged on a separate item in the second invoice, well then it is sneaky.

I would pay what I'm contractually obligated to pay - without a second thought.

If you contracted a person to do something based on a quote they gave you, I see no ethical uncertainty at all.

If you knew she miscalcuated & then took advantage of that, then I'd say it's not right.

I'll be honest and say I don't know why people think she's so great. She always has so many issues. Now, since you have an issue with her, I'd tell her to split the difference and wash my hands of it.

I know a lot of girls used her and loved her without any problems, so I'm sorry this happened Chat Icon

I've already paid the materials fee in full. She cashed the check.

I requested a new quote on the service fee since I added addressing services. I was not expecting to see a change on the materials fee, which I believed I'd paid in full.

I really didn't know why the paper was listed at 0. I don't know how she works things or how her ordering works, so I didn't question it.

I just personally would feel a lot better if she had said "oh just so you know, I adjusted the materials fee because I made a mistake. I'm sorry about that", rather than just slipping it in.

If I hadn't addes addressing, we would have gone based on the original quote a signed off on, and I would never have asked for an updated quote, so would she have ever tried to charge me for those materials?

I just feel like it's bad service, and the money is like 4percent of the total contract

i actually her appreciated her straightforward-ness (is that a word?) I knew it was her because of how she writes.

Its very hard to deal with brides on a deadline almost exclusively by email. A lot gets lost due to lack of personal interaction.

That said, the bottom line is that amount of money is what you owe for the materials, so i honestly would pay it. You could also see if she wants to split the difference if you're unhappy about the way she went about it.

Re: WR - Problem with vendor- WWYD

Should I email her and tell her I felt it was sneaky to slip the charge in there and that I didn't like the way she handled it, or should I just write my check and move on>?

Re: WR - Problem with vendor- WWYD

I deal with most of my clients exclusively by phone/email and I would have handled it a LOT differently.

Another note - my friends are all lawyers, so they have a very different take on this.

I just want to figure out the best way to handle it.

Thanks!

it's a small amount..like 40 bucks.

It's not the money I'm mad about, but the way she handled it.

I would send her an email saying that you are willing to split the difference. That you understand that people make mistakes but you were unhappy with how she handled the situation.

I agree that she should’ve given you a heads up about the materials fee, but I would just pay it.

That's what I was getting it.. I wouldn't pay it but that's me... that's her mistake.. weddings are stressful and costly and she should be the last one giving you stress.. Chat Icon
