I would if I really loved the house. I personally would not mind it.

Have you ever watched "I love Raymond"!!! !Chat Icon
Heck no!! They would be in your biz all the time. we live 2 blocks from IL's (including SIL) for now ( we're currently looking for home) and they constantly call DH for something like he has nothing better to do than to cater to them 24/7.

If it were my parents or ILs I would have to answer hell to the no.

We have cousins that live about 2 miles from us and that works out but they are married and about our age. They are pretty cool and not always in our business or anything like that.

YES!!!!!! I was raised with family around all the time and I loved it and still do. I could definitely live across the street from parents/inlaws/siblings/cousins/aunts!! We are together all the time as it is!

Re: Would you live across the street from family?

No. I would not move any closer to family than I am now. We are about 10 minutes from each set of parents and we each have a sibling that is about 6-7 minutes away.

We did live down the block, now across town but still a minute away. It's not bad.

I would. Right now we live in the same town as my mom and one of my cousins. My brother and his wife live in the next town over. There is a house on my cousin's block that we've said we'd think pretty seriously about buying if it came on the market. It's on a cul-de-sac so we'd be 3 houses away from my cousin.

Re: Would you live across the street from family?

Totally depends on who it is but I probably wouldn't mind. (Unless it was my grandparents then NO WAY.)

Re: Would you live across the street from family?

Absolutely. I wish I did live across from my SILs. 2 of my DHs siblings live down the street from each other and I'd love to live near them. We looked at 2 houses on the same block as DH's older sister but neither wasn't for us, unfortunately.

Re: Would you live across the street from family?

i it was 96% my dream house, and the only thing standing in my way was that it was close to family...I would buy it. It's so hard to find a house that has 95% of what you want. But then again I am super close to my family so it wouldn't bother me.

Re: Would you live across the street from family?

I pretty much grew up with my older brother living one door away and my other two brothers live next door to each other (and one block from Grandma). Eventually when Grandma passes, we're going to assume the house (pay the taxes, etc.) to keep it up and in the family, so I guess I really don't have a problem with living that close to family. I kind of wish we did live closer to the family now. It would make seeing Mom easier, etc. We're a close family but not up each other's butts. We respect each other's privacy/space, etc. As my Mom progresses with age, I have the feeling I'll be responsible for her primary care.

Re: Would you live across the street from family?

Id most certainly live across the street from my mother... id kill for it in fact haha... but i live 2.5 hours away from any of my fam (my dh would agree he loves my fam)...

as for dh's fam.. id never in my wildest dreams live on the same street or town from them even if the house was free for life!.. (nutty mil)...

as for other family it would be a case by case basis.. most likely no

If I got along well with these family members, I wouyld absolutely want to live across from family. I live 7 blocks away from my parents and sometimes I wish we lived on the same street. It wouldn't bother me at all.

Re: Would you live across the street from family?

I live next door to my inlaws. We bought the proporty from thema nd built the house so we were able to get a bigger house for less then if we bought a used house in a different area.

There are upside sand downsides, but most of the things that my inlaws do to bother me would bother me if I lived in Alaska.

The one thing that has been the hardest is that my SIL and fmaily live with my MIL and FIL. That has been the hardest part, but we love our house and look forward to the kids being close and being able to play all the time.

2 words: He-ll No!

We used to live around the block from my MIL. It was good and bad but generally insane. I love the woman but I don't want to live near my birth relatives so why live around the block from her. Chat Icon

Re: Would you live across the street from family?

My family, most definately!
My inlaws, probably. My only worry is with my MIL who tends to baby DH and her being that close would make things worse.

Re: Would you live across the street from family?

I think I could live next to my parents but not my IL's. My parents live three miles away now and watch DD a lot. If they were next door or across the street it would be ideal for lots of situations. Also my parent are ALWAYS respectful of our time and privacy. They help out and back off when they think we need time alone.

IL's don't live here now, but when they did, they were also three miles away and they always wanted DH to come mow the lawn, fix the sink, fix the compute etc. They don't respect our privacy so I don't think we could live peacefully with them so close.

That being said, my best friend lives on a block where her DH's whole family lives. Her MIL is right next door. Next to MIL is one cousin (he lives in the house his parents lived in until they passed). One cousin lives at one end, another at the other end and even another is in the house where their grandparents once lived. Six houses on the block are occupied by 4 brothers of one family and two brothers of another (all brothers/cousins) and their wives and kids.
