I've gone to LIBS (Long Island Beauty School). Its soo cheap, great for cuts, by OMG I once got color and it wasn't good.

I always try to go for updos.

i've gone for color, cuts and once for a facial. you can't beat the price but more importantly, i think they do a better job than my regular salon b/c they have extra eyes on them. remember, if they're up to the stage where they're cutting/coloring real people (vs. dummies), then they're probably on the brink of receiving certification. there's no saying that your regular salon person won't mess up; this is not any different IMO.

I got massages all the time at my massage school. But there is good and bad everywhere, not just students. That's when "playing nice" with the receptionist might help. Ask them nicely who they would recommend (just tell them, you know they are not supposed to tell you but you are really new and concerned/worried!). Chat Icon

ETA: Do you live in NY? Beauty schools are not allowed to perform massages unless in a massage therapy program which a different certification than hair/nail/esthetician.

I would but probably for nothing too permanent like hair color.

Based on what I read, I would consider the Aveda Institute though. I've gotten massages at the New School in Syosset. They were terrific.

I definitely would. My sister goes all the time to the massage school she graduated from.
