Would you change your plans to TTC b/c of your best friend’s wedding?

One of my best friends just got engaged. I’m one of two MOHs. They’re looking at dates in May… and DH and I had discussed starting TTC in August. If we get preggo right away, I’d be due right around my friend’s wedding. I know it can take months (or years) for people to conceive, but it takes others much less time. I’m not sure which one I’m going to be.

WWYD? Postpone your plans by a month or two or go full steam ahead?

I would NEVER conceive based on other people's life plans. I think that it would be rude if that person asked me NOT to be pregnant and wouldn't consider her a great friend.

Re: Would you change your plans to TTC b/c of your best friend’s wedding?

I would never ever postpone plans to TTC...you never know how long it could take, and why let one event interfere with your lifelong plans?? I was almost 8 months PG as the MOH in my best friends wedding and it worked out great. She was thrilled for me, and I do admit I was a bit nervous having to tell her I was pg and would be HUGE....but your friend will prob be thrilled for you if she's a good friend...

Thanks for the advice, ladies. That's what I thought - thank you for making me realize I'm not making a completely selfish decision.

I know my friend would be happy for me... I just hope that she isn't annoyed that I may have to miss her bachelorette party, or may have to get a different dress than the rest of the BP. We shall see...

I asked a similar question when we first started TTC - and got basically the same answers you did!

Ours wasn't the first month of TTC that we'd have to put off... but I thought about it for so long - and when the time actually came for THAT month of trying... we didn't even think twice about continuing to try no matter what.

Good luck! Chat Icon

Nope--wouldn't change a thing. You can be pregnant and still be there for your friend. Go ahead and get to sexing. Chat Icon

NO way!! And if your friend is a true friend, she would be happy for you regardless. My best friend was my MOH and I knew she was TTC. It never crossed my mind to expecther to stop or to worry about her being pregnant while in the bridal aprty. She actually gave birth a few months before our wedding, but I was thrilled for her either wayChat Icon

Re: Would you change your plans to TTC b/c of your best friend’s wedding?

I have a different answer, and your decision will depend on a lot of factors. Here's my story and rationale. I am in my brother's October 09 wedding. I did not want to deliver a baby in September or October or November (although we did BD a lot in Feb, for a 11/09 baby, but not to TTC Chat Icon ). My younger brother deserves for the whole family to fully participate in his wedding and all events leading up to it. He has walked in my shadow a lot of his life and I didn't want him to feel that way during his wedding. For me it meant not TTC for 2-3 months..... What if I was on bed rest, What if I was still in the hospital, What if my parents had to decide to be with me or at his wedding/RD/Day After Brunch? What if? What if? The chances of doom are so slim, but they are still there and I'm not willing to risk it. His wedding is just too important. I didn't want to steal his thunder in any way. He deserves to have the undivided attention of those he loves and who love him. Yes, a wedding and a baby are two of life's greatest joys and the family would be inundated with happiness. But they will be happy for me when my time comes. I have the authority to decide when NOT to conceive and I chose to exercise it for his wedding. He's my only brother. He would never ask me to put my TTC plans on hold, but I feel it is my duty as a loving sister to fully be there for him and to do everything in my power to ensure that I'll be there. It's not a matter of "don't put your life on hold for anyone else"....it's "what's 2 months of my time, I love my brother, I want to fully participate in everything, and I don't want to distract my family away from him". I saw it as an obligation and a small effort on my part.
Now mind you...I wouldn't do this for just anyone. Oh No!!! But I do think that there are people in life who we have to bend and twist ourselves and our choices for. I consider my brother one of those people and I'm happy to bend in his honor.
Thanks for reading if you've gotten this far!!

Re: Would you change your plans to TTC b/c of your best friend’s wedding?

I wouldn't hold off....i have the same situation..i just get worried b/c they say it could take anywhere between 6-9 months so it's not like you are INTENTIONALLY ttc to deliver around the time of her wedding.

If I get pg the time of my best friend's wedding i'm still going to her bachelorette party and still participating in all her activities!!!!
