Working in the Third Trimester

Hey ladies,

How far into your pregnancy do you plan on working? Is anyone working straight up until their due date?

I'll be 36 weeks this weekend and just wondering how much longer I can go on like this. I'm supposed to start working from home on May 1st (I'll be 38 weeks then) and it feels so far away.

Thanks!

Working in the Third Trimester

I couldn't do it after 37 weeks. Luckily I got my temp trained by then and I work for my dad and uncle, so i was able to just say I am done and didn't have to tell them to far ahead. But I had a 38 week scheduled c-section so I went almost to the end.

I should mention that her foot was jammed under my rib cage. They actually had to unhook it, and now I have to bring her to an orthopedic to look at it because its bent the wrong way. It effected my breathing and made my pregnancy cough worse. So that is really why I couldn't go past 37 weeks. I was so uncomfortable, struggling to breath and in some pain.

Working till the end. That's what I did with my first and fingers crossed I can do the same this time. I don't want to use any vaca time before baby gets here.

Re: Working in the Third Trimester

I am a nurse and do 12 really 13 hour shifts in the hospital. With ds1 I worked until 38 weeks. It wasnt planned but I thought I was in labor and went to the hospital but of course was not. After that though I just felt so done. I felt like someone should be taking care of me not the other way around.

This time I already said I most likely will stop at 38 weeks again. If i can continue on I will but this time around I have had much more pain and discomfort.

Re: Working in the Third Trimester

I worked until the day before I gave birth.
I had no paid time off so I wasn't going to waste it before DD was born.
As it was I had to go back when she was 8 weeks old.

I had no issues, Carried small and felt fine.
I had slightly high BP but controlled with meds.
I had bad swelling in my feet but I work in an office job so I sit all day

I worked from home the day before i gave birth because I felt a little off. That was a Monday. Had her on Tuesday and started my leave that day.

I have my c-section planned for 39w1d. I plan on working in the office until 38w1d. The last week is Memorial Day and I plan to work remotely those last 3 days. Unless Chat Icon decides to come early. My first did.

Working in the Third Trimester

With DD I had a scheduled C-Section on a Sunday and my last day in the office was the Friday of that weekend.

Depending on the day my scheduled C-Section is this time around, I plan on working until the day before.

I worked up until the day I went into labor with DS (which was also my due date). The worst part of it for me was the commute into the city everyday but as long as all is going smoothly, I plan to do the same this time around.

with my first pregnancy I went all the way until the end my contractions started in the middle of the night so my last day of work was on a Monday. I plan to go all the way with this pregnancy too...it sucks but I prefer to have more time at home with my babies

Working in the Third Trimester

Until the bitter end. I have been sick a lot this year so far so I have no sick days left. I've already started dipping into my vacation time. If I want to get some sort of payment besides the crap disability pays, I cannot take anymore time.

My due date fell on a thursday and I stopped working the friday before. I would've went up until I gave birth (I was 5 days late) but the company I worked for at that time let you go out a maximum of two weeks before your due date in addition to the time that you would get after you gave birth (6 weeks or 8 weeks) so I took advantage of that being that it didn't interfere with my actual maternity leave. My 8 weeks started the day I had the c-section.

Re: Working in the Third Trimester

I had planned to work through this week, which would have brought me to almost 38 weeks; however, after last week I just couldn't do it anymore. I am working from home until the baby arrives. I did the best I could, but that was a brutal winter of commuting and I was really at work saving all my days, so I figured working from home one extra week wouldn't be that big of a deal. It's been great. Working in pajamas, keeping my feet up all day, getting things done around the house here and there. GL!

ETA: my doctor had suggested I stop working 2 weeks prior to my due date. I'm really lucky work was amenable.

This is my first but I'm hoping to work up until DD is born. We don't get maternity leave at my job, have to use our sick and vacation time so I really want to save that for after she is here.

Re: Working in the Third Trimester

I'm 33 weeks and due to have a section at 37 weeks. Monday will start my two week "vacation" and then I'll start my leave.
I have a hard time walking and my subway commute into the city was just way too much at this point. Once I hit 28 weeks it got really really hard to make the commute. Also, I'm seen 3xs a week now between OB and high risk so it was just time.

Working in the Third Trimester

I've always worked up until delivery day(except with my oldest). Literally contracting at work. I worked in l&d at a different hospital than I was delivering in at the time so I would just leave as soon as I felt contractions.

This time I have to see what happens since I'm having a c-section but can't go into labor because of my last scar. As soon as my OB feels any type of dialation I have to have my csection.

Re: Working in the Third Trimester

I am due today and still working. My last day in the office was on Tuesday though so that was a little past 39 weeks. I won't lie, the last 2 weeks were ROUGH but I wanted to stick it out as long as possible because we had some important meetings scheduled. Like you, I am very fortunate to be able to now work from home and it is much much easier to just stay in comfy clothes all day.

Re: Working in the Third Trimester

With DS I worked 2 days past my due date. I never went into labor & still felt ok (just had a feeling I wasn't going to go into labor at work so I wasn't too worried), but DH was able to drive me to & from work the last few weeks so I didn't have to do the awful subway/bus commute, also it was summer & warm & I didn't need a coat or anything so it felt easier. As it was I ended up being home another week before being induced, so I probably could have worked even longer, though I'm glad I didn't & had that time to relax instead.

This time I'm working until 39 weeks exactly. I'm 37 weeks now & still feeling fine. The commute is rough though & I can't get a ride, also I don't want to tempt fate this time because if I go early, I don't need to stress of worrying about making it out to LIJ all the way from lower Manhattan, I'd rather be home. Plus I have DS to spend time some one-on-one time with before the new baby comes. And I have to go out at the end of a pay period anyway, and 39 weeks is the closest one.
