Witness: Kate "Completely Ignored" Kids on Trip
According to several fellow vacationers, Kate Gosselin didn't pay her eight kids much attention on their getaway to Bald Head Island, N.C., when the camera crew wasn't around - even though she pulled twin daughters Madelyn and Cara, 8, out of school for the for-TV trip.

Between texting on her phone and huddling with her bodyguard Steve Neild (with whom husband Jon once feared she was having an affair), "she completely ignored her children the entire time," fellow vacationer Ann Michele Sweeney tells the newest issue of Us Weekly.
"When Kate sat on the edge of the pool, she told one of [the twins], 'If you splash me, you're dead meat,'" Sweeney says. "She was not joking at all."
The child's response?
"She said, 'Mommy, you are mean!'" Sweeney says.

Another vacationer, Kim Kirsch, tells Us that "Everyone that's encountered her says she's been rude, mean and hateful."
Showing off her gratis tummy tuck (worth $5,000 to $8,000) in a bright bikini, Kate kept her distance as her kids frolicked in the water with a nanny.

Every mom is a "mean mom". It's ridiculous that it's news.
As for ignoring her kids, I text message when I'm out with the kids and talk to adults too.
Pathetic that they grasp at straws like that to portray her as the villian.

Yeah, but you'd think the fact that she's so often on the road doing book signings and speaking engagements that when she's on vacation with her kids, one that she specifically pulled her kids out of school for, she'd be right in the thick of things with them and the nanny.
I understand the media and the show create characters out of people but as far as I'm concerned these characters are created by the material the reality "star" gives them and everything to do with this woman points to her being a self-serving, self-absorbed b*tch.
If she's not really like that, you'd think she would do EVERYTHING in her power to convey that she's nothing like that when she's out and about in public.

that is so dumb. my mom would have killed me if i splashed her too. and i wonder who would call CPS on me if they saw me texting while at home with DS playing on the floor.
and boo-hoo, the kids got pulled out of class for a vacation. i am sure they were so upset about that

this goes to what I was saying on the other thread.
she does not seem to relish times like this spent with her kids.
I don't know what kind of person that makes her...but that's just not my style.
I don't see how you can bring your kids to a pool or beach and then say they better not wet you.
get your *** in the water and PLAY with your friggin' kids!
my dad was a borderline child abuser but still played with us at the beach!
and I agree with Jennie (I think) if she really isn't like this off camera, she is really doing a poor job of putting those rumors to rest.

Absolutely ridiculous! Like the pp said, if I splashed my mom when she didnt want to get wet, she would have killed me too. When my own daughter splashes me when shes in the tub, I tell her to stop all the time! And calling Mommy mean..Oh please!!! All kids do that! My 2 year old just told me she wanted Daddy, not Mommy because Daddy plays with her. Come on!! And she was texting? Then they better come get me then because thats how I stay in touch with people the most during the day when I am home with my daughter. Its all just RIDICULOUS!!
Some things can be said about Kate..thats obvious...BUT..the fact that the media is trying to make her out to be a "bad" mother makes me mad. She is not a bad mother by any means and the fact that maybe she likes to be "Kate" from time to time..with 8 kids..I think its acceptable and understandable. I have ONE and I feel that way. These articles just make me so angry!

While I do think the media is looking for any outlet to bash her, I do believe that she would say that. I can sooo see it. She's too concerned right now about how she looks and with the "P People" following her around everywhere. She wouldn't look too nice for tabloid covers, all wet.
Has anyone noticed that now that Kate is almost single, she's totally dressing differently? She wore pink pumps to a suprize destination? Totally off topic but, just wondering if anyone else noticed???

this is silly.
I bring my kid to the pool...maybe i am ragging...maybe I just blew out my hair...maybe its my 3rd trip to the pool that day...sometimes I don't want to get wet.
I guess I am really mean since he's knows better not to call me mean mom if we are out at a pool for his enjoyment.
took the kids out of school...ehhh...as long as testing wasn't going on and its not a regular thing

Again, I agree. If you're a working mom who doesn't get to see her kids all the time, AS SHE CLAIMS, then I would think she'd JUMP at the chance to play with her children at the beach RATHER than texting.
I could see if she was like every other SAHM who saw her kids everyday not wanting to get splashed and taking a moment out of the day to text someone but IMO this was obviously a special trip - at least special enough to take her kids out of school for - and seemingly she'd rather sit with her body guard and let her nanny take care of HER children.
Say what you want, but I think she's crappy mother.
My mom took us to the beach and we played in the sand and splashed in the ocean, that's the FUN of going to the beach and spending time with your children.

Let me start off my saying I never watched the show.
BUT what this si complaining about is silly. I'm a working mom. While I LOVE my DD and I treasure my time with her, I sometimes need time to myself AWAY from work and AWaY from her.
I went on vacation last year with my inlaws. I let my SIL, MIL and even DH take DD for a little time so I coudl have a few minutes for myself to just relax. To judge a woman for that is just wrong. What's a working woman to do. Give up every second of her life to her job or child? That's not fair.
And I've taken my DD out of the bath for splashing me. I guess I'm a mean mom too.

I think a lot of moms try to give her the benefit of the doubt b/c they see some of themselves in her SOME of the time.
yes, everyone gets short with their SO.
no, you don't always have the time or inclination to get down and dirty (or wet) with your kids.
BUT, I am sure if pappos followed most of you around as much as they followed them, you'd be caught DOING those things far more often than NOT.
and that is the difference.
it's a preponderance of the evidence here, not a fleeting observation.

It is the media!!!!
It makes me so angry. How many shots are there that they can take that she IS playing with her kids. Or dealing with them or parenting or whatever. THOSE shots arent in the magazines or talked about in the tabloids...why? Because that would totally defeat the purpose of what they are trying to do here. It's hard to be "ON" all of the time whether paparazzi is following you are not (I would assume because obviously no one follows me LOL). I just feel that there are PLENTY of shots they have taken or COULD have taken proving that she interacts with her kids..but that wouldnt sell or make headlines right now would it??

I do watch the show on occassion (my nieces are addicted)
she is NOT a mom like the rest of moms out there.
I don't think anyone that doesn't have the kind of help, money, or life she now currently lives should remotely compare themselves to her.
I agree with ALL of what you wrote about MANY moms.
just not about her.

In all of the seasons that I have watched this show, I have NEVER seen her engaged in games and play with her children. Even recently when she took them to make artwork, she sat on the side and made her own and barely glanced over when the kids came over to show her their own.
JON is always the one playing outside with them or doing fun things in the basement like building blanket forts.
I'm just sayin'...........

No I dont know that these shots exist..hence why I said "could have been taken." Maybe I am wrong, maybe they dont exist...maybe she doesnt engage in play with her kids? But I do know that the pap will take shots to support the tabloids obviously. I just dont think that what she supposedly did according to the orginial article in this post is all that bad. Right now I am typing this as my daughter is asking me to push her cart while she plays with her carriage...I told her to wait one second..there are going to be times that I cannot immediately engage in play with her and believe it or not, there are going to be times that I actually DONT WANT TO! LOL

This is so ridiculous!
EVERY mom needs a break. Yes, I got irritated once because DS splashed some spaghetti sauce on my shirt. Yes, I have put DS in his crib to give me a 30 minute break. I can't be on my best behavior 24/7. I try to but I get tired too. I am a human being. So is she!!!!!!
My mom did not want to get splashed by us in the pool. We knew better than doing it. So EVERY mom is "mean" at some point because she does not want to be splashed by water. Who wants to if you have a watch on, the cell phone, etc... Kids don't always understand protecting "valuables".

Whatever with a capital W. Sorry, but I can't begin to judge Kate. She has EIGHT children....EIGHT!!!! I don't think anyone here can begin to relate...and we also can't relate to being photographed every second of the day. I give her a lot of credit....I think the paparazzi are grasping at straws to keep this ridiculous story interesting.

The only thing I dont like about this story is that she pulled the kids out of school for vacation. Its june, isn't the school year almost over? She couldnt wait a few weeks???
My parents would pull us out of school maybe a few days before feb vacation - but its JUNE!
