Definately. My parents did the absolute best they could. They showed me responsibility at a young age and set fair rules. I hope some day I could be close to the kind of parents they are.

(Edited to say are instead of were since they are still my parents!)

i hope so! my parents did a great job at instilling good values in my sister and i. they own a business, so we grew up helping them out and really seeing first hand how hard work can get you what you want. they also were great at making sure we got family time. they never let us have TVs in our rooms becasue they didn't want us to shut ourselves in our rooms and not know the people we were living with. we also took a family camping vacation every year to waaaay northern maine in the middle of nowhere with no TV, no electric, no real bathrooms, nothing... sounds horrible, but they are awesome memories because it forced us to hang out together and gave them a chance to teach my sister and i things and really bond with us... my parents were also always very fair with my sister and i and what they did for each of us. LOVE my parents

To an extent, I did. I don't think you can help it. You have your parents' values instilled in you. However, I was far more liberal than my parents were with me. Although, if you ask my girls, they may not think so.

My mom was VERY strict!!! yes you were mom!!



But looking back, it kept me out of trouble and was the best thing ever for me. My parents did a GREAT job!

To answer the posters question, I plan to raise my kids very similarly to how I was raised.

See, I knew one of them would say that.

In some ways. My parents were strict and they did a great job raising us!
At some points when we did something wrong, there would be yelling. DH and I are kind of on the quiet side, so, I'm hoping I won't be a yeller, but, maybe more of a calm talker. Explain to my children calmly what they are doing wrong, if they don't listen I will try the naughty step/chair procedure.
