We recently left Long Island for DH's promotion. It was not an easy decision to make. We both love LI. But we could not pass up this opportunity. I'll tell you what I miss most:
family
friends
PIZZA (although Chicago does have great deep dish)
beaches (Chicago does have these too, but I haven't made it there yet)
bagels

We stay because of family at this point. I have a 19 yr old son that is living home & going to college and I need him to get going in life. my DH has a 12 yr old daughter that he has joint custody of. It would be impossible for her to be with us as much if we moved out of state. My parents & extended family are here(I'm an only child) DHs family is in Florida mainly. For that reason he would like to go, he always says we'll end up in Florida. I'm not sure I agree.
We were going to buy a home in the area I had rented in for years & then buy a small vacation place upstate. Instead we moved futher east into a unique community that feels like a vacation everyday. That was our compromise. I have a much longer commute, but our cost of living is less, our quality of has improved 100% & now I feel I could stay in our home forever.

Born and raised here
Most of my family is here
Both of our jobs are here
Close to the city, but far enough away too
Most of our friends live here
Shopping, shopping, shopping!
Everything is pretty close by

my family is here
and we are in an EXCELLENT school district
If my family wasn't here, we would've moved a loooonnnggg time ago!
