I usually write it in the groom's name, so that there isn't any sort of confusion with name changes.

Re: Who do you address wedding checks to???

Just put to CASH.

My DH and I had so many issues with our checks from our wedding because some checks had my maiden name, others had my married name, others didn't have our last name right.. it was just a mess, so it's just easier to write CASH!

Re: Who do you address wedding checks to???

Wow.. I'm surprised by how many "cash" payee's there are.
I'm always too nervous to write a check out to cash because if something were to happen those checks can be cashed by anyone. I had a few missing checks from my cardbox... and I have no idea what happened to them. I just know I didn't get a gift from so and so and so and so says they gave x. I also had one couple contact me because we didn't cash their check (which was made out to us).. but we didn't cash it because we never received a card or check from them.
I also found my cardbox open at one point. SO I have no idea what happened to it or any details.
Because of this i would be too nervous to write cash.

I would either write the mr and mrs if I knew about the name changing... or I would write it out to the person I know.

I always write some sort of congratulations message in the memo though.

I have always been able to sign my checks with both my maiden and married names depending on how they are written out and never once had a problem at my bank with this.

Re: Who do you address wedding checks to???

Always Mr. & Mrs. [Groom's Full Name]

That still applies even if bride doesn't change her name.

either write itt o the person you know best

The only thing with writing it out to Cash is that if, god forbid, someone else was to get their hands on the card they could easily cash it for themselves. Obviously if it's written out to someone they wouldn't be able to. I know it's a far fetched idea but you never know...

ITA. God forbid someone steals the cardbox or the card gets misplaced and the wrong person gets their hands on it...write it out to either the bride or groom to eliminate problems when cashing it at the bank

The past few weddings i've known that the bride is changing her name, so i've done Mr & Mrs X.

If I didn't know, I'd probably make it out to cash. I dont know why but I think its weird to make it out to one person, lolChat Icon

I write Mr. and Mrs. if I know the woman is changing her name. If not, I just write to the person I know.

I usually write it to Mary Smith or Billy Brown. This way, if they don't have a joint account, either person can cash it. I use the maiden name of the woman so that there are no issues with having to wait for it to be cashed.

THIS

ETA because you don't know if the wife is changing her name and she will def be abe to cash it because she will definitely have an ID with her maiden name on it. The "or" makes it even easier.

Mr. & Mrs. Firstname Lastname unless the bride is keeping her last name - in which case I write it out to who I'm closest too.

I would not write it out to Cash. Envelopes go astray at weddings & you leave it open to anyone to be able to cash it.

Re: Who do you address wedding checks to???

Bride or groom. I never do cash (for reasons the pp's stated) and I didn't like receiving the Mr. and Mrs. for my wedding - it seemed so presumptuous.

Re: Who do you address wedding checks to???

Ever since my wedding I learned something and I ALWAYS address checks to Mr OR Mrs. So and So.
Because EVERYONE did mr AND mrs. for us and guess what?
The bank made us BOTH sign every single check.

If you do, Mr OR Mrs- either one can sign

I always put the person I am friends with. so if its the guy I put his name, if its the girl I put her name.

I never put both because sometimes its a pain depending on the bank

in the mom I usually write congratulations Guy & Girl!

Re: Who do you address wedding checks to???

In the brides name. So she can open up a checking account in her own name and stash that money just incase something bad happens in that marriage. I'm just saying Chat Icon
