Re: when do you add the baby to your insurance?

We called the insurance company the next day.

ETA: They didn't add our kids until they had a copy of their birth certificates. They told us to use DH's card until then

I called human resources (I happen to deliver where I work) while I was still in the hospital and gave them the info they took care of it and I got her ins. card about 2-3wks later.

In general you have 30 days to add the baby to your policy..but you usually do it almost right away b/c the baby has to go to the pediatrician...

I have Cigna and they are covered under your portion of the the policy untill they are added to the policy. They usually require a birth certificate to add them. When we had Oxford with DD it was the same thing

This is pretty standard. But, usually you need the Birth Certificate to do so and that actually gets to you very fast. You should call to let them know ASAP that you had the baby so they have ot on record.

You should call your insurance co & find out when they need to be notified, all policies are different. You don't want to miss the window, many require notice within 24 hours.

If I remember correctly, I just called to add her on once she was born. I don't remember mailing in her birth certificate.
