When did you "know" you were ready to look for a new job?

Im so on the fence about this.

I loved my job until recently.

Its a long story, but I'm toying with this idea of leaving my company.

Now.

The job I signed on to do has completely disappeared.

I am not acknowledged by most people in the office unless they need something; when I speak to them to even ask how they are doing, I am ignored.

When I am spoken to I am treated idiot.

One of my bosses completely blows off meetings with me, preventing me from really accomplishing anything.

And I know the financial state of the company too - it's just time.

When management just went out the window and I had to start managing others even though I wasnt promoted and I didnt get a pay raise.

When they decided to cut everyone's pay 10% so they wouldnt have to do lay offs and then 4 weeks later they got rid of an entire department.

When management no longer acknowledged those extra hrs of dedication and hard work you put in b/c of restructuring.

When the atmosphere around you just becomes toxic: ie people not getting along, constant complaining of the job, etc.

Iknow when I keep looking for reasons not to go to work (which is now). I hate my job anyway and wouldn't work at all if living here didn't require it to make ends meet.

Ugh, I am in the same place you are.

I just applied to 3 places tonight, we will see what happens.

For me, it is because I know that I am completely underpaid - one of the jobs I sent my resume to lists the salary range and the low end is 50% more than I make...and I meet the requirements listed on the posting.

On top of that, there are company changes announced last week which mean even more work piled on my shoulders and less opportunity for me to learn and develop my skills.

I don't hate my job, it is just frustrating. I hate looking for a job more than anything and I am so disappointed that I am in this situation, I thought this would be my home for a long time.

Good luck to you!

Sounds like you know what to do.... Good luck.

I'm kinda in the same boat as you. Ive been here almost 3 years & I feel like a bottom feeder. People are starting to act very shady too...

Re: When did you "know" you were ready to look for a new job?

When:

- you mention to your boss that you've been working through lunch the past few weeks and she pretty much replies 'yeah so? that's what we do here'

- when your boss emails you Friday night asking you to put together a report and send it to her Sunday (and you don't work weekends nor get overtime)

- when your boss undermines what you do

It's time to move on...

Re: When did you "know" you were ready to look for a new job?

It took a lot

I ended up out on disability for migraines (probably partially job stress), then I was DREADING going back to work, which I never felt before, I always loved my job.

Then I was back and on the 3rd day I fell and got hurt and I'm out on disability again. I don't know why but for some reason that made me KNOW that I needed a change.

So much came to the forefront...things that make me unhappy with my current job, the fact that I'm not being paid based on my abilities, etc etc.

I know I need a change. It's too bad it took getting hurt to figure it out.

This was huge for me. Last year they laid off the two other people on my team, so iw as doing the work of 3. During busy season i told my boss I was totally swamped and needed help and he said "Sorry to hear that"

I knew it was time when I was so stressed, my eye started twitching on Monday and didn't stop until Friday afternoon - 3 weeks in a row. Something had to change.

Re: When did you "know" you were ready to look for a new job?

I left a few jobs. Mostly because I was not happy and got tired to come home beotching about it.

1/ money. I was no longer satisfied with the income.

2/ no potential to go further in the company

3/ Hated to deal with BS.

Now there is BS everywhere. Sometimes you just need NEW BS. Chat Icon

Seems to be the norm these days with the recession going on. Employers will work you like a dog until you're ready to quit 'cus they know there will be others to replace you. :P

My boss pretty much told me that I can take it or leave it 'cus there's a hiring freeze this year. Time to get on the job boards!

Re: When did you "know" you were ready to look for a new job?

When you start getting collections calls constantly because the company is late paying bills and when your constantly asked if checks came in from clients so they can try and pay the bills. Also what I was promised when hired never materialized - no review or raise and i been there 7 months so i have crap pay and was lied to about advancing in the company and alot of shady things. Plus I like communication which this company has none. Now I am looking for better because I feel uncomfortable working for a unstable company.

When I used to cry in the bathroom on my breaks it was bad.
When I used to cry in front of actual patients because I hated the job so much it was time to leave.

When I would wake up each morning and cry because I dreaded the day ahead!
