What's your favorite baby name that *got away*
Don't you hate it when a name you've had your heart set on goes and becomes the most popular name in the playground or the name of your new niece/nephew?
Do you have a chosen name (for future baby) that's been taken?
*this occured to me b/c a good friend is due in a few weeks, but her sister is due in a few days and they are actually fighting over the same name. I only hope they end up with kids of different sexes.*

I loved the name Emma ever since 1985, when I read Jane Austen's book. I still love the name - but it got really popular - I actually yelled "NOOOOOO!" at the tv when Rachel named her baby emma on friends.
DH and I used to say that if we had a son we'd name him Jackson - cause we were both born in Jackson Heights, we met in Jackson Heights (I moved back after college) and now we live in LIC - in the Vernon/Jackson section.
But it's really popular now - and the crummy building manager in our apt. named his son jackson - so it's tainted.

I agree with Jackson. One of the Dixie Chicks named her son that and I knew it was all over for me. I love the Johnny Cash song "Jackson" and I loved it from Steal Magnolias. now I know 2 little Jacksons that are too close to us to use.

Emily.....which a friend took. But now i hate it..
Mackenzie...a friend of the DH's daughter...but we rarely see him anymore so i think that one will go back on the list
Liam....a friend ***cough cough moe**** was thinking of using it BUT she had a girl

This is so funny...I have loved Jackson since I was a little girl and I saw the mini series North and South. People thought I was crazy for loving that name, I guess we were ahead of the times.

Kayla for me too. I started watching DAYS OF OUR LIVES in 1986, and fell in love with the name "Kayla" (the name of my favorite character...) It was a very uncommon name back then...
Now it's sooooo common. It is definitely in the Top 10 girls names for NY State

Ever since I was a little girl I wanted to name my kids Jack (from Jack & the beanstalk ) and Britney (from the Chipmunks )
I would never name my daughter Britney now because it reminds me too much of Britney Spears.
My SIL named her son Jackson, so I think Jack is too close to that.

but its seems that eveyone named their girls that . every "its a girl" thingie out side someones house has those 2 names..
but you know what i dont care and i still love them ..just might keep them lol

Emma. That's the name of my very best friend growing up. However, an other friend already used it-naming her daughter after my BF. And then my SIL used it.
But it's really OK. I have found other names I like if we have  (s).

I always wanted Nathan , Nate for short, but my sister named her son Nathanial...too close ...
Then I wanted Jordan for a girl....now have two cousins kids with that name.

Brady, I have loved that name since John Black named his son Brady on days of our lives. I have since heard a lot more, Brady anderson the baseball player, then Miranda named her boy Brady on SATC. I still love it, my friend is having a boy and I told her do not even think about it!

My sister and her husband always had Isabella /Isabelle on their list - and now they've changed their minds 'cause it's too popular - such a beautiful name!

i absolutely loved the name sophie... but now it's really popular. my SIL *heard* me mention that i was considering it for my girl once, and pretended not to have heard me. in another conversation about naming girls, she said, " i like sophie!, maybe i'll name my girl sophie."
we're both expecting, (she's having a girl, and due ahead of me, and i don't know the gender of mine yet), so we'll see... i sure have learned to keep my mouth shut as i have come up with some more not so common names that i love.

I loved Emily and Gianna both are way too big now. However, I am not having a baby yet...so we'll see. I also like Leah and Jenna and I have friends who like them too...that are expecting..so oh well!

We plan to name our 1st daughter, Leila Simone. So I dont think Leila is too popular at all. Hopefully, it will remain that way.

I loved Sophia... My SIL just named my new niece that though. It is their 3rd so I told them they can't steal any more of the good names. 
I also love Ava and Isabella - but those are very popular also! Boy names are tougher - I think I am going to leave them up to DH!

I've wanted Sophie Grace or Isabel Grace FOREVER. Of course both names are popular now, but I know I wanted them before the boom, so when the time comes, will probably stick with one of them.

it is very popular now
every time i am in a store or out in public i hear "ISABELLAAAAAA"
i love them still i think its so pretty
but thats my niece name so i really dont want to use that now
