what's a good housewarming gift?
One of the girls that works in my department just got her first apartment with her boyfriend and I want to get her something this weekend for it. Any suggestions?

I think the GC or bottle of wine is nice!
Thats what most people brought us esp. since they hadn't been over and didn't know our decor, colors, etc.

The best gifts we got were home depot gift certificates!
Maybe for an apartment she wouldn't need those though.

This is a great idea or even a basket of goods - try a theme, like "Spice of Life" and do a basket of spices. Or Italian Basket with pasta,s cans of tomatoes, cans of artichoke hearts, olives, etc ... Or a baking basket w/ flour, sugar, cake mixes, icings, etc ...
Basket of Marinades - different sauces & rubs and stuff.
Something like that.

Oh, I need ideas too. I can't do wine though....because my friend is PG. They have a brand-new house (out of state)....I don't know what to get either....I'm going to visit next week and I want to bring something.

Yeah I love that idea!!!
My mom made us a basket with that vodka sauce recipe I posted.. she put a huge bottle of vodka, the garlic, a few boxes of penne pasta, a big jar of pre-made tomato sauce, and a copy of the recipe laminated! lol
And all the other ingedients were in there as well! It looks so nice all put together!!

If the person has a house I always buy an American flag set so they can put it out on the national holidays.
Most people never think of that
Second, a Home Depot GC... probably the most useful.
If an apt, I've made a basket of cleaning products. A laundry basket filled with a mop, swiffer dusters, roll of paper towels, disinfectant wipes, dishwashing liquid, Bon Ami, bleach, laundry detergent, scrub brush, Tilex, etc. Most apts. don't have room for a lot of stuff and all of my friends loved the basket because it was their taste and it would get used.

I do plants a lot. Didn't you get an interesting water pitcher as a wedding gift? Maybe they would like that.

I too just gave my coworker who just bought a house a basket of cleaning products and candles and let me tell you when the cashier said 121 and change I was like what?????? but I kept everything b/c it the thought that counts and I liked all of the items they were just perfect for a new home!
She and my coworkers loved it!

Thanks for all the suggestions! Since I'm her boss, I'd feel uncomfortable with the monetary-type gift (GC) but there were quite a few listed that I think would work well.
