What would happen if we were to protest or hand out flyers in front of a puppy store?
There is a puppy store in Smithtown, I think its called Pick of the Litter? Anyway we pass by it every weekend when we drive to my parents house and it makes me boil inside everytime I look at it. I would love to stand in front of the store and tell every person who goes in there about puppy mills and hand out flyers with pictures of the atrocities that go on in pm.
Would I get arrested?

There was so much interest on these boards that a few of us have been chatting about what to do next. I will keep you in the FM loop as things develop. I think we are going to try & do something long-term as well.

I believe you can hand out literature about PMs and how pet stores who sell puppies are supporting the PMs but I don't think you can directly bash the specific pet store you are in front of.
I also think there's a speicif distance you have to keep otherwise I believe you're considered loitering.

This is true, and it is the "perimiter buffer" that I am trying to find out.
As soon as I hear I will forward the info.
If I remember correctly, I think someone was held responsible for loss of business when they plastered PM support flyers on the window of a store.....

I work in Smithtown and I drive by that store all the time. I get so MAD!!! My heart breaks everytime I drive by.

A few years back I saw a women getting arrested in front of Yuppy Puppy in Port Jeff for protesting because she bought a puppy from there that shortly died after, they gave her another puupy which also died! She was rightfully disgusted, protesting and warning all potential buyers and they had the cops take her away. Of course I don't know the details, was there for only a few minutes before the cops came

I think you are on the right track. We can distribute information, but we cannot deter business directly. But of course it makes me wonder how the abortion protesters get away with it..... that's for another post.
At any rate there are peaceful assebly permits & such, and it can very from location to location.
And Jenn....NO PLASTERING WINDOWS!!!

There is also a puppy store in East Meadow on Hempstead Tpke that I can't stand to look at either! I have gone in there once or twice to see the puppies, but I would never buy from there and everyone I know that mentions that I store I say how they are puppy mill dogs. I would love to pass out flyers in front of that store, since there are so many people going in there, the word might really get out.

That is a great idea! I hate that place, it breaks my heart to see those puppies in the window. They advertise that they are certified by that fake agency that makes people think they are AKC registered (I dont remember what the initials for that agency are, but I have heard of it before when they talk about puppy mills).

The CKC. It is a completely made up kennel club that is used mostly by PMs Hobby breeders and BYBs.

One just opened up in Aquebogue and I drive by it a lot and after watching Oprah the other day I just want to go in there and be like "Do you KNOW who you are supporting???"
I get so sad every time I drive by it and was wondering what would happen if people picketed or handed out fliers in front.
