What to do? Demand more, or accept the offer?

I'm going to try to make a long story short here Chat Icon

We went to Florida for vacation and came back Tuesday. We were scheduled for a layover in Charlotte, arriving at the airport at 5pm, scheduled to depart to Philadelphia at 6pm. When we arrived in Charlotte we received email and phone notification that our flight was delayed until 7:45pm. Not so bad if we were traveling alone, but we were traveling with Alex (4.5 years old) and Yael (9 months old).

So we get dinner and walk over to the gate only to find out that the notifications we recieved, and which, by the way, were also displayed on the monitors in the airport, were WRONG and the flight left as scheduled at 6pm.

I went to customer service and they put us on the 8pm flight, which was delayed another hour. All in all, I got home at 12:30am instead of 7:30pm. All they offered at the time was three $10 meal vouchers, after we already had dinner, waiting for a flight that was never delayed!

So I sent an email to customer service today and they offered me three $50 vouchers for future travels. Mind you, I used 40,000 miles for two of the tix, and spent about $400 for a third ticket and fees.

Should I accept it, or demand to speak to a supervisor and ask for more compensation considering it was their mistake?

Sorry that you had to be inconvenienced like that- I cant even imagine having two kids and having to go through all that Chat Icon

Honestly if it were me, I would keep pushing it- I would bet they offer you more- the airline business is too competitive and what happened was no question their fault- definitely talk to a supervisor and see what they can offer- it doesnt hurt to try.

I agree--I'd push for a bit more. It was a stupid mistake, entirely their fault, and how do they know you weren't trying to make it home for something important? $150 would not make up for that.

The only bright side is that it happened on your way home and didn't ruin your vacation!!

I'm going against the crowd here. I say accept it. But that's just me. It's not worth the aggravation IMO

Agreed.
It wasn't plane malfunction, weather, etc. It was an error on their part and they need to compensate you better than that.

Not sure if this helps.. but for comparison purposes, DH and I were delayed 25 hours coming home from Buenos Aires last year.. United put us up in a hotel and meals and gave us a $150 voucher each. (which I'm actually trying to sell on the travel board right now Chat Icon )
