They did not accept our offer....

We are pretty upset. We offered them 10% less than their asking price-which I think is pretty generous and they said no. So, I am not sure at this point I want to continue looking or wait another few months. It's just very frustrating. Chat Icon

Do you love the house? Maybe you want to consider countering again with a little higher of an offer...that is if you love it. GL

How long has the house been on the market?

If you love the house, like the other poster said I would try to go back. Did they even counter offer or just flat out said "no"?

If they just flat out said no, there might be some other offers on the table that are higher.

Re: They did not accept our offer....

They gave us a number and said they will never go lower than that. It's a little more than we wanted to pay. I do love the house, but I don't want to get into money problems because of it.
The house has been on the market only 2 months with no offers.

NOt sure what neighborhood it's in...but I wouldn't be surprised if this house stays on the market for longer. You never know..they may come around.

I was thinking that too-it's not in the best school district, so that's one of the reasons we will not go higher..

that's true! they may come back to you and accept if they are in a rush!
Otherwise, you have to look at it like "it's not meant to be."
Good luck! get out there one more time, try open housing this weekend!

Those sellers sound like fools. I bet they'll regret not taking your offer. You'll probably find something even better. Don't get too discouraged. Chat Icon

Yeah, thanks all. I am not too discouraged. I think we are going to take a few months off from looking, and maybe take a trip that we would have never been able to do if we had bought a house. I think the sellers will be kicking themselves in a few months when their house is still on the market. They haven't even lowered the price once since they put it up. I think they are being a bit greedy.

Too months is not that long....in this market. Give it some time and I'm sure they'll come back!! Trust me, it won't sell anytime soon....especially if they're not willing to budge any bit!

Re: They did not accept our offer....

I agree that they may come around if the house is on the market longer (good possibility of this)...

I just wanted to chime in and say that I think that homeowners (myself included) got pretty spoiled with the market being so high for a while. I certainly overpaid for my house and then for a while believed (after putting a lot of work into it) that my house was worth a ton more than it really is right now...

So now that the market has "leveled out", I think some homeowners are putting their houses up at expensive prices because they have been convinced by the previous market that this is what their house is really worth. Unfortunately it takes time for the sellers to realize that the market was completely inflated and they need to lower their asking prices to fit the current market, not the market one year ago...

Re: They did not accept our offer....

The people selling my house did this.

They were over priced and refused to admit it.

The house is great, wonderful property, great school district, BUT it was all original from the 50's. Nothing had been updated.

We waited and continued to look at other houses. All the while, I had my heart set on that house.

Eventually their greediness was overcome by the reality of the house itself and the housing market.

They drastically dropped their price and we got it.

Never give up hope on a house, but I always suggest to keep looking - you just never know what's out there.

Good Luck!

Re: They did not accept our offer....

They may not be able to go lower depending on how much they owe on the house (ie they don't want to drop it lower than what they owe!)

Good luck!

Some people just won't budge. If you feel the house is not worth what they are asking, I wouldn't give in. There will be other houses!

Re: They did not accept our offer....

first just wanted to say that you probably don't know for sure that there were no other offers on the house
If you really love the house you have to decide what you feel comfortable paying. You shouldn't feel pressured into a price that is more than you want to pay.
