What size shoe is your 1 year old(ish) wearing ?
I think Alexa has a high arch or something 
I had gotten a pair of Stride Rite shoes for her in a size 4 ...When I hold the shoe up to her foot there "looks" like there should be plenty of room...But when I put her foot in, it barely goes in and the top of her foot squishes out the top 
I'm going to have to bring her with me to get her foot measured...Brandon's first walking shoe was a 4 and I had no issues...
I have SO many cute shoes I bought ahead that will never fit her  ..
I hope she's not one of those kids that can't ever wear "cheap" shoes

I have yet to fins a shoe that will stay on her foot for more than 5 seconds.
I think she is a 3 or a 4. She has teeny CHUBBY feet.

Caden had a high in step and needed an extra wide shoe to accommodate for it...
Im thinking that is what you are describing....
As he got older his foot isnt as pudgy as it was..he's now in regular shoes and doesnt need wide

Go to Joseph's Shoes. They are in Mt. Sinai, but they are SO worth it. I got my shoes there when I was a little girl and they fit DS for his first shoes (was a 4.5)

They are both a size 3. I have a pair of stride rite shoes for each of them that fit pretty well. I'm not getting them any more shoes until they start walking.

Well, there are worse fates than that  .
Seriously, some of the shoes are cut all wrong and I think that feet change so much as they walk and grow.

Ryan's first pair of walking shoes (stride rite) had to specially ordered because of his wide foot. It was a 4.5W.
Now he is a 5 and not wide.

When DD was 1 she wore a 3.5W now at 15 months she is wearing a 4.5M

4 and 4W. Ronan scrunches his toes every time I put shoes on him so I find I have to get shoes with a large elastic span on the front or laces.

I wonder if thats what she needs ( a 4 Wide) instead of a 4
ETA- And Alexa does that toe scrunching thing too

DD can't wear cheap shoes for the same reason, little pad of fat at the top of her foot.
DD wears Robeez or Pediped and they fit perfectly. Size 12.24 mths.

My DD is 11 months and wears a 4.5 wide from Stride Rite. They fit perfectly, but unfortunately, no cheap shoes fit her bc she needs the wide! So annoying!

Peyton was 5 XXW(double extra wide ) at 12 months, now at 21 months she is a 7 1/2 XW.

we got dd her first pair of shoes at stride rite when she was around 14-15m and she was a 5.5 (she gets her big feet from me  ) now at almost 19m shes still wearing the same shoes!

My DS has tiny feet, I actually went to Stride Rite to buy him shoes and they dont make walking shoes small enough!

DS got his first walking shoes the day after he started doing laps around the house. He was 10.5 months.
We took him to stride rite and he got 6.5W.
Now at 2 years he is still a wide and its annoying but its the same issue as you have. They look like they have plenty of room but for the life of me I cant jam his foot in there

ONG I think my DS has the biggest feet here
At 12 months he was a 6 1/2 XW and the last pair I bought him before 15 mos was a 7XW
