what should i do? Pleas read

I am going back to work n monday 12/4.Friday 12/8 is a catholic holiday which as a teacher i can take the day loose a little bit of money but not loose my day as far as taking any time goes. I was thinking of puttining for it since its my first week back and that mean i would onlyhave to work a 4 day week and it woudl be a little easier on me. Do you think that looks realy bad. I have been ther 5 years and never taken advantage oif any of these days

Are you going to be observing the holiday? If so, it is totally appropriate to take the day. If you are just planning to stay home though that doesn't seem like a good idea.

I was in the same situation as you, this is my sixth year teaching and I never take days. I went back the day after labor day, but I did take the first Friday off to get used to the idea of working again. Those days are yours to use, take them. I'm sure that noone will even notice that you never took those religious days before, if they do tell them that after having a baby you found GodChat Icon
take the day and enjoy your baby.

Re: what should i do? Pleas read

this is my opinion (keep in mind I went from corporate to teaching, so sometimes my mindset is still corporate).

If you never took those days before, then I think it looks bad to start taking them now. I feel like someone would be saying "you will be back less than a week and the absences are starting already. What's next??"

Obviously your priorities have changed, but you don't need to advertise it your first week back.

Just my two cents.

Once you have children your priorities change. Before I had DD I accrued 70+ sick days. Then I used every single one (plus "borrowed" from my union bank) to cover my "maternity leave". Now I am lucky to have 3-4 days left at the end of each year.

Do what you are comfortable with. If you are feel comfortable working a 4 day week for the first week just do it and don't listen to what anyone says (and believe me they will say something).

If I were you, since you haven't taken that day in the past, I wouldn't do it the first week back.

I agree with this too - except that I'm coming from a corporate perspetive also. Unless you regularly celebrate the Immaculate Conception, I would hold that personal day for another month. I would use all of your days off, but you never know what the year will bring in terms of your baby getting sick, etc.
