What is your suggestion
Wow this board has turned toxic.
If you disagree with Cuomo so much, what is your actual solution?
How would you handle the highest death rate and infection rate in the world?
How can you hold a person accountable for a virus that no human has control over?
There is so much displaced rage it’s ridiculous.

Infections and hospitalizations in NY have been decreasing for 15 days. I think it’s safe for NY to start Phase 1 of opening.

I was all for Cuomo and how he was handling this.
I loved the daily updates and truth telling the numbers. Now he is pisssing me off
The numbers have gone down. Other states are opening. He has to give an actual real plan with dates on when we are opening.
It is not going to go away and if he thinks we should wait to open till we get a vaccine then i think he is crazy!! Natural hed immunity will happen and before anyone says well it can mutate or you can get it again. IF thats true a vaccine will do nothing and then what for the next months and years we cant go anywhere ?!! Thanks but no thanks!!
He should be outlying a fing plan already so we know.
At this point I feel like now he is just trying to win some political battle no matter how much he wants to say he isnt!!

I like Cuomo and I think he’s doing a great job. He did everything he should have. I just don’t think there’s any need for a daily press conference when there’s nothing new to report. He has outlined the plan and the plan seems appropriate. I feel like he is just telling us the same stuff every day and likes to hear himself talk. I don’t know how people can blame him for us being in this mess. It’s a virus that shut down the whole world practically. Not his fault....

OP I think you are right. The federal government put out guidelines including that there needs to be a consistent decrease in people testing positive for Covid 19 for two weeks. New York is no where near this. I understand people want to get out for many reasons and the financial toll is horrible. But if he opens things up now the same people who say they are willing to take their chances willl be the first ones calling ambulances and going to emergency rooms if they feel sick likely overwhelming the system.

I would suggest that he acknowledge other issues (e.g., the fact that domestic violence can equate to death and that people will be left in poverty) that have arisen as a result of this predicament and, at the least, indicate that he has begun to craft a plan for handling said situations.

he actually mention this today and provided a hotline. I am sure a hotline is not enough but he did acknowledge it

I agree with this. I think if he had an actual plan then people could at least get used to it, accept it, try to understand. Just be honest with us and tell us ALL the facts and not just the horrible terrible ones that you need to say to keep us reliant upon your power. Instead we continuously get "I will tell you when I make the decision" and "I don't know we will see how I feel at some point in the future." He knew damn well that schools would not reopen WEEKS ago and yet he dragged it out. He KNOWS now that he won't allow camps to open and yet the two times someone asked he literally got up and walked out of the briefing. The CDC has outlined criteria for reopening which many states are following and yet he has to do his own thing and say that even that is not enough. We ALL know that numbers will go up when we reopen no matter when that is - so why doesn't he say that? Instead he says that if the numbers go up at all then we have to start over. Why doesn't he EVER tell us the good news, like the number of people who have recovered, and the fact that the death rate is lower than we thought, and that there are medications showing promise. He should also be showing one iota of concern for people in this state OTHER THAN Covid patients. People who need medical treatment. People who have lost their livelihood and have had zero income for months. People who are having mental issues or domestic issues. But no - instead first he says to "deal with it, it isn't death" and next he says to "go get a job at the grocery store" and then he says today "oh here's a phone number to call where you can talk to someone." What, really? So those are the things I would do.
As an aside, I think the next 2 weeks will be very telling when the numbers come out for states that have started reopening. Everyone knows they will go up. If they skyrocket, then maybe I will consider changing my tune. If they don't and/or hospitals are not overwhelmed, then don't you think he needs to rethink his strategy?

If there is a steady decline of cases for 14 days and hospitals have 30% capacity then phase 1 will begin with reopening construction and manufacturing. He said most likely upstate 1st to reopen and he may extend the pause in other areas if necessary. He also said which counties can resume elective surgeries (all upstate)

No,, I have rage against asinine ideas to keep the economy, adults and children shuttered inside their homes for months on end.
From the beginning, I have said, the older and those with pre-existing conditions should shelter in place.
Now that we've ALL sheltered for 30 days, then yes, Phase I reopening needs to begin. YES, the numbers will increase, that is expected. Mitigation was never intended to ELIMINATE the damn virus, just lessen the numbers requiring immediate hospitalizations.
You need to reopen the economy now! Non essential businesses should open. Masks, social distancing as best possible should be implemented. Schools should reopen with smaller class sizes, elimination of assemblies, children stay in their classrooms for lunch, etc. Even in higher grades it may mean restructuring so the same students stay with the same "honors" classes.
So many things can be done. It is insane to continue on this way. How many parents actually think their children are learning anything? How many people think teleworking is as effective as going to work? There are so many solutions every industry can be taking if we THINK OUTSIDE THE DAMN BOX.
If I hear that saving even one life is worth it and having NO PLAN(!!!) makes sense I think my eyes will roll right off my head.

You do realize that other states are in much better shape, don’t you? We still have close to 2300 people dying each week. What do you think will happen if we don’t take this slowly? Did you see all the assholes on the news protesting in Commack today? No masks, not social distancing. People are selfish and DGAF about anyone but themselves. It’s because of this attitude, the fact we’ve demonstrated selfish, childish, tantrums, that is the reason these measures need to be taken...

Who is deciding which 10 kids per class get to go to school then? you can't just click your fingers and make class sizes smaller..where are the rest of the kids going?

14 days from when may 15th cause we have a decline already.
Phase 1 does say that the biggest risk people should stay in and you know what anyone else that doesn’t want to can stay in.
I have been calm and understanding now I am losing my patience. It’s time to do something.
None of his reports make me feel we are getting out anytime soon at all.

You are right this weekend there will be tons of people not social distancing. And as it keeps getting warmer it’s going to get worse.
He has said this worked because people actually listened and you know what people are now going to rebel and stop listening. So I would think the smart thing to do would be to start the phases see how it pans out and people may be willing to actually wait it out cause their is hope in site!

See this is the "you can't" attitude I'm talking about. There are classes in my DC's school that are inclusion with 2 teachers per class...."click your fingers" and you get 2 classes of 10. I think classes of 15 would be acceptable as well. Make class periods smaller, less "prep" periods for the older levels and voila, you have more teachers. Why is it always this red tape that stops people from thinking outside the box??? Exactly what I AM TALKING ABOUT!!

I agree with you, except that so far I still like his daily briefs. For example, yesterday I heard about the plans for public transportation, today about schools. I just wish he would go to the point and skip personal stories... those were "cute" at the beginning, not anymore.

I agree with you in theory but it takes time to implement these plans. If you want to make classes smaller, where are they going. We don't have an empty classroom in our schools. Maybe have them do "shifts" but they you still need time to implement bus changes. Are we having kids wear masks all day? Basically, the teachers will be fixing masks all day for the younger grades. In older grades, are you having a custodian in each lab room ready to disinfect each piece of equipment after each class. Are they eating lunch? There can be no masks then? Then you have to deal with the Teacher's Union.
If they open up businesses are people going to adhere to wearing their masks. People are already rebelling about that. You can see that from the Commack mess that happened today.
There are many solutions but they take time to implement. That is why he was holding off on canceling school because he was trying to let the schools get prepared, which they are still not. After his announcement today, there were hundreds of calls to our administrative office asking a million questions they don't have answers for yet.
