What is the recommended time to start taking prenatal vitamins?
DH and I will be TTCing in the next few months, and I was wondering what the consensus was on taking prenatals.
How far before TTC are you supposed to take prenatals?

If you know you'll be starting to TTC in the next few months, then I would say now is a good time to start taking them, or at least a good multivitamin.

I would start them now. I started taking them almost a year before TTC

I took generic ones 3 months before I started TTCing and then once I found out I was PG, I started taking the prescription ones.

I didn't take them until I became pregnant. My doctor said to take folic acid and a multi-vitamin while TTCing (and to be honest, I don't think I took a multi!).
Once I got my BFP, I got an OTC prenatal (CVS brand) and then got my Prenate Elite prescription at my first appt (at 7 weeks pg).

I started them 3 months before the wedding b/c I wasn't sure how quickly we'd get preg, I say the sooner you start, the better :)

My doctor recommended I take a multivitamin before becoming pregnant, and actually didn't start me on prenatals until about month 2 of the pregnancy.

DH and are will hopefully start trying next spring either via IVF or a successful vas reversal I was told I should start taking them now along with folic acid and calcium citrate. I was also told about 2yrs ago that taking otc prenatals throughout adulthood was just fine and was better then a womens multivitamin. I am taking a prescription and the above vitamins. I notice I'm not as tired, my hair is healthier, and my nails, but the side effects are a little brutal. I threw up everyday for 1 wk until I started taking them with juice nad a peice of fruit. Worked for me.....

my dr said i could take a regular womens multi until i found out i was pregnant, then i switched to over the counter prenatals until my first drs visit
