What is a "smash cake"?

its a cake that you give your kid on their birthday that they can destroy and eat, and put in the hair, clothes, face eyes - whenever it lands.

I'm not laughing at all because I had never heard of it before DS's birthday!
It's basically a way for you to allow your child to 'enjoy' touching their cake without destroying what others will be eating.

I thought that it was a really cute idea, but decided not to do it for her first birthday. Kaila was a VERY messy eater (still is) and the thought of her having a whole cake, even if it was small, made me a little 
We had ice cream cake for her first, so one big piece of that was all she needed lol.

i would just give the baby one big piece of her own...i think its a waste IMHO... i guess its also cause i dont think its cute when kids are covered in food lol
