Re: What is a "holiday tree"??

This really annoys me to NO end! The tree is for CHRISTMAS!

What also annoys me is when there is a tree for Christmas and a menorah for Hanukah but no natvity scene because that is seen as too religious. The hliday of Christmas is about the Nativity NOT really about a tree. The nativity would be the best representation of Christmas just like the menorah is represents Hanukah.

Just curious.

For those that are offended that the christmas tree is being dubbed (by some) as a holiday tree...are you as equally offended by the merchandising that is shoved down our throats, as early as September?

Are you as equally as offended by the lack of "christ" in "christmas"?

I'm only offended by it being called a holiday tree. I don't understand why anyone would be offended by a Christmas Tree. I'm not offended by a Menorah although it is not my tradition. I would never have the nerve to try and call it holiday candle holders just because it's not my religion. If you want to have a tree in your home and call it a holiday tree fine. But don't stop calling the tree at rockville center a Christmas tree. For people who are so bothered by it being called a Christmas tree- don't go see it then!

Re: What is a "holiday tree"??

It really doesn't bother me at all. To me it is a christmas tree, if others, even the public as a whole, chooses not to call it that that is up to them.

I think what she was saying was that even though a Christmas tree is a symbol for Christmas - the Nativity scene is the best representation since it symbolizes the birth of christ. She may have went a bit off topic, but I believe she was stating that it is acceptable to display a tree in celebration of Christmas, but not the nativity scene.

She's just saying that even though the tree represents the holiday of Christmas, a tree is not really a true religious representation of the holiday whereas the nativity scene is

I think this whole thing is getting way out of hand...why all of a sudden are people NOW being offended. This has been going on for so long....just like the Pledge of Allegianec. We did this all through school, and now all of a sudden people get offended with the word God...I didnt mean to get off topic, just trying to make a point.

All trees offend me..... Chat Icon

By calling it a "Holiday Tree", you're offending those people who don't celebrate ANY winter holiday..... If you call it a "Winter Tree", you're offending those from the southern hemisphere, like Australia, because it's summer there....

It never ends......

I'm more offended that the Today Show did a whole segment about the tree being carted away from its happy little forest home smack in the middle of NBC's so-called "Green Week."

Because nothing screams "green" like chopping down trees... Chat Icon

(Okay, so it's ironic, not offensive. But still. Chat Icon )

I'm glad I'm not the only one that was Chat Icon

OMG -- the TV in my elevators at work had a blurb that said they cut it down with hand saws to be more environmentally friendly. I saw that and LAUGED OUT LOUD. You're cutting down a tree, stupid. Using hand saws doesn't change that. Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

OK, you guys obviously missed the part where they said it was more environmentally friendly because they were trucking it from Connecticut instead of the midwest or Canada. Jeez...Chat Icon Chat Icon

Hand saws! Connecticut! Too funny. With so much spin, no wonder half the population doesn't believe in global warming!

I think these are very different issues. I don't think you can compare calling a Christmas tree a holiday tree with requiring students to recite the pledge of allegiance in school. One has to do with being PC while the other raises first amendment concerns.

There have been lawsuits regarding the pledge of allegiance for decades. This isn't a new topic.

Back to the topic, I don't find it offensive to call the tree a Christmas tree. That's the only holiday it represents. If people are worried about being PC, include symbols of other holidays. IMO, it's not necessary to start calling the tree a holiday tree.
