what are your plans for visitors after delivery? hospitals that offer large time frame

I just got out of lamaze class...

The visiting policy USE to be grandparents 2-4 with baby in room, everyone else 6:30-8 with the baby back at the nursery...

Presently its 1-8 free for all- with the baby in the room...

i preferred the old policy, i dont want everyone just popping in at any time and being around the baby....

what are you telling visitors?

eta- i feel a little better- just checked withrop's site and it says they take the baby back from 6-830- so i guess it will avoid most vistors providing its a weekday...

I have no idea what my hospitals visiting policy is. I guess I should look into that sooner than later. Chat Icon

this topic was actually debated pretty recently...

i will welcome visitors whenever they want to come by. If someone cares enough to make a point of coming to see me and our new angel baby in the hospital - then i consider that, not an honor - but incredibly special.

just my thoughts...

Not sure what the actually policy is - but I doubt Good Sam follows them anyway...Chat Icon

After delivery, the baby stays with us for 30 minutes in the Delivery Room. For the last 10 minutes or so, I plan on inviting the grandparents in the room. I feel as though they should be the next people to see the baby - I want to make it special for them! I don't want them to see the baby behind the glass window for the first time like everyone else.

I love people and can't wait for visitors - the more the merrier and my door (at home) is always open too - just give me a call so I can at least put a bra on and brush my hair....Chat Icon

Re: what are your plans for visitors after delivery? hospitals that offer large time frame

I think it's wise to plan ahead for this and I wish I had. When it is a 6-7 hour window, a lot of people show up half an hour before or after that window. There were 2 days when I was not up to showering before the visitors started. Well, one of those days I just didn't realize that people would show up early. I felt weird eating in front of visitors, and I had to kick people out so I could pump breastmilk. DS was in the NICU and my husband would spend all his time escorting people there b/c they all wanted to see the baby and they were not allowed without one of us. I was stuck at the room because I had some complications and they really didn't want me to go without a wheelchair. I am forever grateful for my visitors but I'd be lying if I said that the visiting hours did not take a toll on me and DH. We didn't even have time to call the people who couldn't make it to visit. Being in on a weekend made it more difficult. On Monday, I was still in the hospital and it was a lot quieter before the after work crowd came to visit.

Re: what are your plans for visitors after delivery? hospitals that offer large time frame

I plan on letting whomever wants to come see us come...I feel that it will take the tension & pressure of people wanting to come by when we first get home. My parents will be at the hospital the entire time since they will be coming down when I go into labor (they live OOS)....I do know that a lot of family & friends will mostly come at night though when the baby is back in the nursery bc they all do work. The ones that can come during the day will & I will be glad to see them & show off our new baby angel Chat Icon

Honestly, I don't really expect to have any visitors at the hospital.

ITA!!! We know a lot of family and friends that will come and visit and I'm going to really appreciate them taking the time and traveling the distance.

I think that most people will come during the night session.

Even though Winthrop was grandparents only from 2-4 they really let anyone in so it didn't really matter!

You can't control when people come to visit you....they may call the hospital and decide it's more convenient for them to come during the day! Chat Icon

Re: what are your plans for visitors after delivery? hospitals that offer large time frame

This is for NSHORE:

Maternity:
11 a.m. to 8 p.m.
A maximum of three people at a time are allowed. No children under 14 unless they are siblings.

11AM to 8PM is a looooooooong time IMO - DH or Grandma is one thing, a parade of people in and out all damn day is another -
I'm not looking forward to it, but I don't know how you can tell people they're not 'allowed' to come -

Re: what are your plans for visitors after delivery? hospitals that offer large time frame

I welcome all visitors, but if it becomes too much i will tell everyone that i need to rest. It depends on how you are feeling. Me, I can't sleep in hospitals, so anyone to keep me busy while the baby is sleeping is good. I go stir crazy wanting to leave.
But if it is an issue for you either you can tell people what hours you would like visitors or even tell the nurses that you need time alone and they will tell your visitors that they need to come back later.

Re: what are your plans for visitors after delivery? hospitals that offer large time frame

As much as I want my family to come, I also do not want a parade of people coming in and out, wanting to hold my newborn . I will have a bris/ baby naming 8 days later , so they can all see the baby then.

I told my DH that he is to tell people I prefer no visitors and if people come , they come , I won't kick them out. it's all personal preference and as first time mother this is what I prefer.

Ditto. Besides my immediate family, I do not anticipate many visitors I'd not want in a room with my baby. If you're uncomfortable, you can always have the baby in the nursery for viewing throgh a window. And if you're dilerious and falling asleep, people will not stay to torture you. Ask your nurses to help with crowd control. They'll have no problem asking people to let mommy rest!

I already told DH that I don't want anyone except my mom to come up...lol I know how his family can be and I really don't want that all right after I give birth. They can come by once we are home. I need my rest.

I don't want a ton of visitors at the hospital, just grandparents preferably. I also want a private room because I don't want to room with someone who has a parade of visitors. Once we are home, we will gladly welcome anyone that wants to come by.

Re: what are your plans for visitors after delivery? hospitals that offer large time frame

Last time we had visitors from 12 noon until 8 pm & one night until 830! Chat Icon Granted the grandparents were fine & my bro/SIL, BUT then we had cousins come w/ their kids & like Kerie, DD was in the NICU so I was stuck in the room babysitting their kids while DH was escorting people to NICU to see our DD. Not fun, considering I had a CS & was telling kids not to play w/ the bed controls or make the TV loud or touch everything they saw.

Although I think its great people want to see you, I wish they'd enforce the no children policy (except for siblings).

This time I'm worried too b/c the baby will be in the room & I really don't want everyone holding/touching the baby at that stage.

Southside's hours were 12-8 every day.

the hours at the hosp are 1-8 and I am assuming most will come after work. I don't mind though it will only be family and close friends that come anyway. DH and My parents and sis will be there when ever they want

I don't know my hospital's policy, but would love for any visitors to come see us--I would think its so considerate!

I'd rather it be at the hospital when I can lay down and chill, as opposed to at home w/the dogs trying to get into everyone's business, plus I wouldn't have to worry about picking up/cleaning Chat Icon

ETA: I wouldn't mind NOT seeing MIL for awhile though, cause she's such a PITA Chat Icon I would be surprised if she came to the hospital though
