I wont even go look.

We tried SO many different brands of food - cheap, expensive, organic. My dog refused to eat half of them, some caused her to have diarrhea and some gave her gas that could kill someone.

She eats the original Purina Beneful and it does not cause any of the problems that every other dog food has. She's happy and thats all that matters to me

The food i feed my pup is listed under the 5 star rating for canned dog food.

I use Merrick, do you think this is a good brand for him?

Here are the first ingredients in his food

Beef, Beef Broth, Beef Liver, Fresh Sweet Potatoes, Fresh Carrots, Garden Peas, Fresh Whole Granny Smith Apples

but I am planning to switch to this once we get a little more through the previous food:

Venison Meal, Millet, Oatmeal, Barley, Canola Oil (preserved with Mixed Tocopherols and Citric Acid), Pumpkinseeds

I also mix in a raw diet that I make myself from a recipe the breeder gave me that includes meat, organ meat, fruits, and veggies.

Edited to include the star rating according to the wesbite the op made.

I do understand this is a little over the top for most people but my dog is my hobby. I am into dog shows, obedience training, etc...

Natural Balance for his allergies:

Potatoes, Duck, Potato Protein, Canola Oil (preserved with natural mixed tocopherols), Dicalcium Phosphate,

and we add canned pumpkin to his food for extra fiber

The word "Meal" is perfect for all meats like Turkey, Chicken, Fish etc in the first 5 ingredients listed... De-Boned is also perfect...

How's that for just the first 5?

The rest are:

Eggs, herring oil, pea fiber, sunflower oil, natural flavors, apples, carrots, cottage cheese, dried chicory root, glucosamine, chondroitin, minerals, vitamins, direct-fed microbials.

No grains. Call me crazy, but I see no reason why my dogs shouldn't have human-quality food. The disgusting things that are put in mainstream dog food aren't fit for human consumption, what does that tell you?

This kind of quality comes with a price tag. But I'm hoping that with more education will become more popularity, more sales, and then a company like Evo/Innova can lower their prices to be more competitive.

Right now we're feeding Brinkley Natural Balance Sweet Potato and Fish (Sweet Potatoes, Salmon, Salmon Meal, Canola Oil, Potato Fiber) and he's doing "ok" on it but I want better for him. It's made by Diamond foods which was a big player in the huge pet food recall years ago where there were pet deaths. Never sat well with me.

Ginger's foster mom has her on Canidae all stages (Chicken meal, turkey meal, lamb meal, brown rice, white rice) which I'm not thrilled about but will feed her while she acclimates to our home. Then she's getting switched to Evo Herring and Salmon. I hope her body can handle that much nutrition because since she was HW+ three months ago, she can use the high protein to build back muscle.

You also need to consider that, when a dog is eating such a high quality food, they don't need as much to provide nutrients for their bodies. I know many Lab owners who have switched to Evo H&S recently and are cutting back the amounts they feed because of this.

Some kinds of white meat can cause allergic reactions and Brinkley is prone to rashes, dry skin and dandruff so I like the fish-base. He's been doing well on the NB but I know we can do better. We've been adding fish oil and vitamin E to his food for a year and recently, yogurt too (for ear yeast infections) but once we switch to Evo, I think we can stop that. I just hope both of their stomachs can handle it - sometimes really rich food can be too much.

And yes, he is extremely shiny.

Mine is bad, I know it is

Chicken Meal, Rice Flour, Ground Rice, Rice Bran, Poultry Fat

But, my dog has inflammtory bowel,. we adopted her from a shlter, couldnt figure our for the life of us hwy since a well trained nice little dog was there, but now we think its because she's sick. We had her on prescprition dog food and steroids for a long time. This is the only food we can feed her without needing medication and I figure this is better than daily steroids.

I wish we could still feed her the wellness core like we were giving her before she get sick, but constant doggy diarrhea cant be very healthy either

WOW... Now that's shiny... I'm going to tell my friend about that food.... She has 2 black labs with skin, hair, rashes and dandruff issues... And one has ear infections all the time...

That's the one. The only thing is... with tax, it's about $70 for the largest bag they sell. I know some people who use another good but cheaper food and mix the Evo in with it, to save some money.

Also, it's brand new so my Pet Supplies Plus (Smithtown) didn't have it on the shelves yet. They said they could order it. Petco doesn't stock Evo at all. But I found a small store in Setauket (Feasts for Beasts) that carries it in stock. I'm not sure where your friend is.

If the ear infections are yeast based, she could add a tablespoon of plain white yogurt to their food per day. I don't know if it's any coincidence but once we started doing that, the time in between cleanings has grown from 3 days to 2 1/2 weeks (and still increasing) with no dirt in them at all. Not a smudge. Plus, yogurt is good for their digestion. Too much can make them have soft poops so she should go easy if she tries it.
