Well we know what not to eat BUT...

what are you eating anyway?
For crying out loud I just want a stinking sandwich for lunch. I find it kind of overboard to not eat cold cuts.

If your doctor said cold cuts were okay I don't see anything wrong with them in moderation - I haven't been eating them - but have found many alternatives instead.

I have had lots of salads, grilled cheese with tomato, and things like quesdillas for lunch, and on the rare occasion a slice of pizza.

I work in the city and there are a ton of places near where I work so it is never hard to find something different to eat.

You can eat cold cuts - just make sure you are getting them from a reputable place. My doctor said just try not to eat it every day.

I eat cold cuts too. I mean, I don't everyday and I get them from good deli's, but I will have a salami and provolone sandwich if the mood strikes me.

I drink soda too. I love ginger ale personally. But when I was soooo sick with m/s and my doctor told me to drink any type of soda I could keep down so I was at least getting SOME fluids in me.

Re: Well we know what not to eat BUT...

Honestly, I eat everything! Pg is stressful enough, and obbessing about food is just one thing i don't want to worry about. I did this with both pg's, and my daughter is just fine, except for that 3rd eye-J/K!!

My doc is laid back about food, as long as i eat in moderation, from a reputable place, and pastuerized it doesn't matter.

I eat cold cuts, hot dogs, feta cheese, pepperoni, shellfish, fresh mozzarella, bologna, artificial sweetners etc.

a cold cut sandwich from a busy place won't do anything, just be sure to drink enough water to counter the salt.

Enjoy! MODERATION is KEY!

I ate them [cold cuts] everyday in my first pregnancy and never knew it was a possible no-no at all. I have been more paranoid this time around and refuse to eat them now. I have decided that I just can't "ruin" a steak anymore with "well done" and have settled on med. well even though I prefer medium. I guess I'm a rebel after all..Chat Icon

My doctor said to avoid cold cuts as much as possible really for the sodium content more than anything. He said turkey is okay, so I have that once or twice a week.....

But we're having a hero for Superbowl Sunday, so I might snag a piece of that...I'll just drink extra water to counter it!

Re: Well we know what not to eat BUT...

The flyer I was given on Listeria was from the Department of Health and Human Services or something like that. It says to heat all deli meat until steaming hot. Listeria contaminates the meat at the time of packaging during the manuf. process, so I don't think it would really matter if you were getting it from a reputable place or not.

With that said, I still eat it in moderation. Usually Quiznos.

I stay away from artificial sweetners, peanut butter, seafood (which I don't like anyway), unpasteurized stuff and caffeine. I don't eat as healthy as I should be, but I've been eating a lot of salads, poultry, beef and pizza!

Re: Well we know what not to eat BUT...

I guess I am lucky in a lot of ways because I don't eat meat or fish. I still worry about all the ecoli breakouts recently, but I love my spinach!! I just don't eat it raw anymore. I have cut my caffeine intake way back, but I was a total addict. I have eaten a couple of the forbidden cheeses (they were all pasturized) and I haven't cut out peanuts, but will closer to my due date.

I totally understand taking precautions, but I also think that you can go overboard with it and drive yourself crazy. I just try to moderate everything.

Re: Well we know what not to eat BUT...

I'm not a big sandwich eater, but cold cuts in moderation are fine - now that I think of it - I had a turkey and cheese sandwich for lunch on monday.

I still drink some soda, some of the "bad" cheeses (if loving feta is wrong I dont wanna be right!) and I've had maybe 3 salads with bleu cheese dressing.

Our moms ate all those things and we turned out fine!

Everything in moderation.Chat Icon

I have always eaten medium rare burgers? We aren't supposed to do that?

And what is this I have been hearing about peanut butter? I literally live on the stuff....

I read that eating peanuts during the later stages of pregnancy may be linked to peanut allergies in children.
