Weird thing just happened..
So I was home alone and I heard loud banging/knocking on the door. I didn't answer it bc it was 8:20 at night and the baby was asleep. My neighbor then calls and asks if someone just knocked on my door. She said her husband answered and it was 2 men asking to clean their floors. Her husband said no and she said they were very insistent on coming in the house. She got scared because her three small kids were sitting there. They gave her a business card and left. The business card is from a company in Bohemia and we are in central nassau.. weird? She called the cops, better to be safe then sorry right?

paradigm distribution is the company name.. nothing comes up about floor cleaning when i google it

That is so scary. I'm glad you didn't let them in! This makes me feel less crazy for not answering my door when I'm here alone unless I know who it is.

I never answer the door! I had someone knock yesterday (young girl..prob. a survey or something), but, I just peeked thru the window.
Then, last night, I'm driving down my street and see a kid/teen carrying a bin of stuff.
I kept saying to myself I'm going out and buying a No Soliciting sign (or a few). It's so annoying (and scary) to open the doors these days.
Im glad she called the cops.

Curious - for those who dont answer the door, do you say "who is it" or just peek out then hide?. Just wondering, as our door is difficult to see out of without the person on the outside knowing youre looking out.

That is really scary. I never answer my door unless I know who it is. Meaning unless I see the UPS/mail/Fedex truck I dont answer. There is no reasno anyone should be knocking on my door (I don't mean to be snarky here).

Wow that's crazy. Its times like those I'm glad I have a dog because any time people knock on the door or ring the bell she barks like crazy.

I look out for a car. If I don't recognize it I won't open the door. I don't say anything, just ignore it. We have a peep hole but I'm too short to use it . If I really want to know who's there I'd drag over a chair and look out the peep hole. I usually feel it can't be anything important if someone is unexpectedly knocking on my door and I don't recognize their vehicle.

My friend's house was broken into, and the incident was caught on tape by her neighbor's security cameras. The guys who broke in knocked on the door first, and when no one answered, they smashed the glass doors and went in. She wouldn't have answered the door if she were home either, but thank goodness she and her kids had gone out bc who knows what would have happened if they were inside.

I never know how to handle these situations when I am home alone. Someone tried to break into my apt when I was home once. They rang the bell/knocked beforehand and I ignored it. Next thing I know there is a man on my window ledge (I was on the 4th floor of a walkup!). However do I want to advertise I am home by calling out? Seems like its a risk either way!
To the OP, good thing you did not open the door. That definitely sounds suspicious to me!

I wouldn't of answered the door but prob make it known someone was home. I would call the business card # up and ask - if it was a legit sales pitch tell them you would never use the service and will pass the word around because of the shady visit.
