I recently had many workers at my house. . .
I always showed them the bathroom, and if they were doing something particularly dirty that day I put cardboard down.
For the guys who came for a few days like electricians, painters, sheetrock - I bought them lunch every day and left water and soda for them.
For the contractors who were in my house for over a month, I bought them lunch once or twice a week.
No one ever ASKED for lunch. . . but, Ive also never heard of not buying lunch for your workers, especially if they are there for a short time. Everyone I know just does that.

DH is an electrician, and he never gets treated for lunch. Nor does he expect it.

I find the lunch thing really rude. It's one thing if you offer lunch, but to be asked to order it and then pay for it! No way!

Was the food delivered or did you pick-up? If delivered and they are working outside, why didn't you tell the pizza guy to deliver to the workers?
Maybe the guys asked you to order lunch since they may not be familiar with the area or where to order from but wasn't expecting you to pay. When it was delivered to the door, you accepted the order, paid and then brought out to guys they might have just assumed it was your treat.
If you picked up then well, yeah it's a little presumptuous for them not to offer you money.
That's a good point, and after reading it, this could have been what happened, even if you picked it up it could have been a mis-communication and they assumed you were offering to treat.
The bathroom thing I would expect and just deal with it, or rent a porta-potty if it was that big of a job.

And I'm really floored at how many people are "skeeved" by letting contractors use their bathrooms or by even letting company.
I mean, I SUPPOSE I could see being a little weirded out by having a contractor/stranger use your toilet, but COMPANY?? If you're close enough to invite someone to your house for a party then really, I think they're close enough to use your precious bathroom and not have it skeeve you. I mean, really??

You really think your contractor or the guys working for him are going to shit up your bathroom that much? WOW. These people are being paid to do a job in your home, they're not animals, so NO, I wouldn't worry about sitting my ass down on a toilet in my home after POSSIBLY one of the men I've ENTRUSTED to work on my house used the bathroom.
Good lord. They're men, not animals for goodness sake.

When you use a public toilet do you sit right on the lid or do you hover or put toilet paper down?? I don't see the difference. Strangers are using those toilets and peeing on the seats and etc.... Im not going to sit right down on it.
You need to seriously relax. I will again say i would never tell them no, ever! I think they have the right to use my bathroom and not pee out in my bushes, but that doesn't mean it isn't gross to have to clean up after them.

This is exactly the way I was raised as well. My husband works in the field and would never dare not to feed the workers or allow them to use the bathroom.

so wait where are they supposed to go if they have to use the bathroom?
When I did renovation both inside and out they arranged for a porta potty. Obviously if you have 1 person working on a project and they ask to use a bathroom I wouldn't say no, but I would not want a crew of people using my bathroom on the regular.
ETA: Also I always have water on hand and happy to offer it but I do not think ordering lunch is necessary.

I have very close friends who are contractors. They are married, family men, with homes of their own and kids, they would NEVER just shit on someone's toilet. That's beyond disgusting behavior and the fact that you just ASSume the people you hire do that, well, I just don't know, it tells me the kind of person you are and what you project on others.
As for public toilets, of course I put down TP, but that's a completely different story, that's a public restroom being used by THOUSANDS of people, I would hardly compare that to my own home.
And believe me, I'm very relaxed, just sort of amazed at your opinion.
FTR, if I went into my bathroom after a contractor used it and there was shit on the seat, you can bet your ass I'm making HIM go back in there and clean it up, but having NEVER been in that situation, I've never had to do that, thank goodness.
I guess I've always hired really good, trustworthy, and CLEAN contractors.

Never heard of making or buying lunch daily and my dad was a contractor for like 50 years since he was a teen
Once in awhile they'd buy or make lunch for him but never daily and it's totally appreciated but never ever ever expected.
Ever!
I became close to my painter and offered water, guiness, and dinner / he only took the water.

As far as bathrooms - I can see where it's gross even if people are clean. Guests or not.
But I have issues with that, and i own it and know its nuts - so there's that.

I do have to say that some of the responses are appalling and clearly show that some posters think blue collar workers aren't even worthy of using their toilets, like they're bunch of animals. Awful.
ETA: I just don't understand how hard it is to give the toilet a quick wipe down with a Clorox wipe if you're sooooo skeeved?

OMG!!! being a married man, family man etc has nothing to do with this....
I dont necessarily mean ON your toilet (and I know that is what I typed but when I went to edit, there was a glitch)but it could even by splatter under the the seat. You are naive to think that when women or men are using your bathroom aren't possibly getting even urine on your seat and just wiping it off with toilet paper and not disinfect it. it happens...
But you are going to just keep making it seem like I wouldnt let workers use my bathroom like im some Biotch or that I think they are all gross and dirty, this is NOT the case, but some people are gross and dirty. But even if I think they are clean that doesnt mean Im going to feel 100% comfortable using my bathroom after they have without having to wipe down the toilet.

I dont care if its blue collar worker or a financial advisor in a suit. They are still a stranger. It has NOTHING NOTHING to do with the type of job they have. MY FIL is a plumber and my husband worked construction while in college so I am not hating anyone. I just don't want my bathroom to be like a public restroom where I need to wipe it down, hover or put toilet paper down.
yes a quick wipe down is fine but when people are working in your house for weeks and everytime you have to go to the bathroom you have to give it a wipe down it can be annoying, I WOULD DEAL WITH IT, but im not thrilled about it.
ETA: I didnt see one post here (maybe I am wrong) where anyone flat out said they WOULD NOT let a worker use their bathroom.

And I'm really floored at how many people are "skeeved" by letting contractors use their bathrooms or by even letting company.

Im glad you dont mind sitting your arse down on a toilet some stranger sat on and possible took a wet dump on.... Or who may not wash his or her hands after going...you dont know what people are doing or about their hygiene and its your house not some public bathroom.
I would never not let someone use it, but Im not thrilled that they are. It doesnt get me all excited knowing I need to wipe down the bathroom everyday because they are using it.
First off, what kind of friends/family do you have that would shit on your toilet seat? And REALLY? You really think your contractor or the guys working for him are going to shit up your bathroom that much? WOW. These people are being paid to do a job in your home, they're not animals, so NO, I wouldn't worry about sitting my ass down on a toilet in my home after POSSIBLY one of the men I've ENTRUSTED to work on my house used the bathroom.
Good lord. They're men, not animals for goodness sake.
ETA: I truly pity the poor ******* that gets to work at your house. Yeesh!
I am mainly talking about strangers not family.
Im glad it doesn't gross you out but the reality is they are going to shiit on your toilet and its just gross especially when you don't know the person and then have to clean up after people you do not know.
When you use a public toilet do you sit right on the lid or do you hover or put toilet paper down?? I don't see the difference. Strangers are using those toilets and peeing on the seats and etc.... Im not going to sit right down on it.
You need to seriously relax. I will again say i would never tell them no, ever! I think they have the right to use my bathroom and not pee out in my bushes, but that doesn't mean it isn't gross to have to clean up after them.
This is too funny! How do you know they are taking shits? Let alone on your toilet seat?! I am cracking up!

I do have to say that some of the responses are appalling and clearly show that some posters think blue collar workers aren't even worthy of using their toilets, like they're bunch of animals. Awful.
ETA: I just don't understand how hard it is to give the toilet a quick wipe down with a Clorox wipe if you're sooooo skeeved?
I dont care if its blue collar worker or a financial advisor in a suit. They are still a stranger. It has NOTHING NOTHING to do with the type of job they have. MY FIL is a plumber and my husband worked construction while in college so I am not hating anyone. I just don't want my bathroom to be like a public restroom where I need to wipe it down, hover or put toilet paper down.
yes a quick wipe down is fine but when people are working in your house for weeks and everytime you have to go to the bathroom you have to give it a wipe down it can be annoying, I WOULD DEAL WITH IT, but im not thrilled about it.
I am sorry but you sound ridiculous. You're entitled to your opinion, and I'm entitled to think that you sound like a real piece of work.
Your bathroom must really be the shit.
