We finally know what happened to Ebony
The surgeon just called and told me that the test results showed he had meningitis. It was very severe and very quick. He also told me that had Ebony come through the tests and all, he would have been in a lot of pain and may not have survived the meningitis even with treatment.
He said there was no way we could have known, nor done anything more than what we did.
Ebony is in a better place, and did not suffer, which I am grateful for. He was still a puppy at heart at 11 years old, and he died still a puppy.
Aug. 8, 1995 - Dec. 2, 2006.

Oh Kara. I am so sorry You are right, at least Ebony did not suffer and spent his whole life carefree and happy, thanks to the wonderful life you provided for him. The world is a better place for having had him here

at least you KNOW what it was now and know there was nothing you could have done. the best thing is that he is not suffering anymore.

I hope knowing he didn't suffer makes it a little easier to deal with, time will probably be the best healing balm of all.
I am thinking of you guys all the time and hope you are doing better.

Knowing...what it was, that we could not have done more, that he is better off than if he recouperated....knowing all that has helped, a little. And my sister lent me her dog so I am not all alone. I try to keep busy so as not to think too much. And everyone's kind words and support have been so touching.
I am making a photo album of Ebs, and will include a print out of my 2 posts, and all your replies. The support has been ovewhelming and for that I thank you all. I also know I am not alone, and others have been through this and made it out OK. That gives me hope.

PS Please forgive me that I haven't answered the FMs -- I hope to get to them but so many it is incredible...
