We are BACK! Edited on the last post with a link to the storm!!!
And what an ADVENTURE it was!!!!
Cailen had a BLAST!
This child was the perfect festival child. From the moment we got there, he had a permanent smile on his face.
There were thousands of people at the festival, and about 90% knew Cailen by the end of the week. There were TONS of kids there, and Cailen was the one that people would say hi to by name. I would be like,  who IS that Cailen?
Its one thing to know your child and love his personalities. But when you see everyone else loves your child for the same qualities, it swells your heart with so much joy.... He danced in front of the stage, tromped around the festival (he figured his way around the entire festival!!!) and jumped into every experience with so much gusto....
It was hot hot HOT the first few days. Painfully hot. We kept him cool and full of sunblock, which he loved....
Then it rained. Then came the mud. Endless rain and mud. Up to our ankles, then our shins. Cailen learned the word "dirty." He would come over with his feet full of mud (barefoot most of the time) and say "doo-ty!" Eventually he learned to love the mud. Everytime it rained he wanted to be out from under our awnings and play in the rain.
And then the destruction happened. No joke. On our last day it started to rain. Wind came howling. Cailen began to cry, which he never did the entire time when it rained. And all of a sudden, we saw tents go flying. FLYING!!!
DH and I were under the volunteer tent with Cailen, which is like a big huge rental tent people get for parties. They were all over the festival.
I left the big tent to go back to our are, where we had screened in porches, awnings, and our tents. When the wind was so hard it blew water on us, I picked up my screaming child and ran into our tent.
The tent started to get pushed. And then it started to collapse!!! It was falling on Cailen, and I had to use everythng I had to hold it up to keep from smothering Cailen, and try to open the tent door. I was screaming for help but no one heard me because of the storm.
My younger stepdaughter was in the tent next to us, and she eventually heard us. She was terrified but she was so brave. She ran out of the tent and unzipped us. I ran to our car. I saw her run away to do something else... It was like a true disaster with all of this chaos. Cailen calmed down in the car immediately.
then all of a sudden hail PELTED the windshield!!! I saw 3 people running t my car. My stepdaughter got my other stepdaughter and her boyfriend. They were covered in welts from the hail!!!!
we stayed inside for a while. My DH helped get another young girl into our other car.
everyone was safe. no one was hurt in the entire festival, but the destruction was unbelievable. The big tent that I was in with Cailen just 10 minutes before collapsed. They al did. All those bg tents!!!!
Our tent was flattened, and torn and shredded. So was my friend's tent. Our screened in porch was CRUMPLED in a ball - even the metal supporting it....
It was crazy. I took tons of pictures - you guys have to see this!!!!
I have a lifetime of laundry to do. everything we own is wet and muddy. Cailen's favorite books were in the tent. Destroyed But everything we lost are just things...
Even after that, we still had an awesome time. And everyone helped each other, which is what this festival is all about.
Glad to be home, dry, and clean!!!

Wow Liza, sounds like quite an experience. Cailen sounds like "the mayor".
Sorry to hear about your scary ordeal, thankfully everyone is okay.
Can't wait to see pics.

Glad you enjoyed the majority of it, and that the major nastiness happened toward the very end, and that everyone is ok!

Wow! What an adventure that sounds like!
We are also a festival-loving family, but I haven't camped out at one in years. DH goes every year with his brother and friends.
I wouldn't want to go without Emily --- and I don't know how it would go, but you did it with Cailen and he is younger so next year I am just going to have to go for it!
The hail story! OMG! That is just so crazy.
I can't wait to see pictures!
What festival did you go to?
