Was at home show--question about kitchen cabinets

Was at the home show and was looking at kitchen cabinets. I know I cannot afford wood cabinets but why do the ones I look at (and have) feel fake? Are there cabinets out there that are affordable and feel like wood?

Also, I was looking at the windows, is it cheaper for a place like unified to do the windows or a contractor?

well they look and feel fake because they are fake.. there really is no way to replicate the look and feel of natural wood. Especially the way natural wood takes stain (with real wood there will be variations- highs & lows in the way the stain is absorbed depending upon the variations in the wood grain).

Regarding expense- what is your budget and how many feet of cabinetry do you need? You might be surprised- you might be able to get real wood.

the cabinets feel fak because they are. you can sometimes get cabinets that are fake but they use real wood doors.

As for windows, it all depends. some contractors do a lot of windows and get a great price on them and they wont charge you all that much to install them. just make sure they are licensed and insured. you can usually get free quotes.

I don't know if you stopped at the Alure booth, but we did our siding and windows with them and they did a great job. Call my DH at 516-695-7394 he works in the basement division, but he can put you in touch with the guy who does the windows. Reco's get a better price.
