Video Shows Ravens’ Ray Rice Brutally Knocking Out Then-Fiancée Unconscious In Elevator

TMZ has obtained video of the violence that earned Baltimore Ravens running back Ray Rice a two-game suspension. In it, he viciously punches his then-fiancée (now wife) Janay Palmer so hard she’s knocked out.
An employee of the hotel told TMZ the NFL saw the elevator footage before imposing the suspension.
In the video, filmed on Feb. 15 at the now-shuttered Revel Hotel and Casino in Atlantic City, it appears that the two are arguing, and Palmer lunges toward him.
Rice punches her hard in the face, and she hits the elevator handrail on the way down, knocking her out cold.
He drags her out of the elevator, takes off her shoes and attempts to get her to sit up, but she flops back down. Someone comes by to talk to him.
Eventually, she comes to. She and Rice were married a month later.
After his suspension, Rice did not elaborate on what happened in the elevator, but called his actions “totally inexcusable” at a press conference in May.
In a letter sent to all NFL owners on Aug. 28, NFL commissioner Roger Goodell apologized about Ray’s easy penalty, saying “I didn’t get it right.”
In the letter, Goodell said, “domestic violence and sexual assault are wrong. They are illegal. They have no place in the NFL and are unacceptable in any way, under any circumstances. That has been and remains our policy.”
He also outlined a tougher domestic violence policy which called for a six-game suspension for the first offense and “banishment from the NFL” for the second.
He emphasized that “even one case of domestic violence or sexual assault is unacceptable.”
UPDATE — Sept. 8, 2014, 10:11 am ET: An NFL spokesperson told BuzzFeed that no one in their office had seen the video until today.
Brian McCarthy, a PR executive said in an email: “We requested from law enforcement any and all information about the incident, including the video from inside the elevator. That video was not made available to us and no one in our office has seen it until today.”

That is ridiculous! They should both be charged for assault. She hit him before they went into the elevator and then again in the elevator. I do not condone him hitting her back but they should both be charged.

I watched the video.
Wondering what prompted her to take a swing at him before they got on the elevator and why she went after him when they were on it.
And yes...I know that sounds like I'm blaming her. But sh!t...keep your hands to yourself!

I feel sorry for her that she apparently has Zero self esteem to marry him after he brutally knocked her out. And shame on the NFL, you get a year suspension for Freakin Weed, and just a game or two for domestic violence.

I don't know what I find most disturbing. The fact that he hit her the way her did and just dragged her around like a doll, the fact that she married him after this, or that the NFL gave him a 2 game suspension and claims that they never saw the video.
I get that she swung at him first and I am all about defending yourself make or female but there are other ways he could have restrained her or defended himself without a blast to the face

I agree with that.
It could've been handled differently.
However if someone is coming at you your instinct is to react. Not always thinking 1st.
And I don't know if the blast to face knocked her out or her head hitting the rail.
Thankfully she wasn't more seriously hurt. We all hear stories of people dying from hitting their heads after a hit.
As for her marrying him after this. I have no words for that.

ugh i heard the video was leaked and I looked at it earlier...his actions were inexcusable. Yes, she hit him too but come on now.
i cant believe the punishment is 6 game suspension for first offense and possible suspension for second offense. Although I thought i heard his punishment was 2 game suspension. what?!?! why is there even an option for a second offense??? kids look up to football players and they see them get away with this; talk about setting a poor example

Sorry I come from the camp a man should NEVER hit a woman. I don't care if she hit him first. Yes she shouldn't have. But she did and he should have controlled himself.
Maybe it's bc I am not into football but this is a joke, he needs to permanently be banned for life. Same as Michael Vick. Animal ab users and men who hit woman do not change. It's gross that people still support these teams. Isn't Michael Vick on the jets now? It's horrific someone would sign him again.

on July 29, Sports Illustrated’s Peter King stated that the “NFL and some Ravens officials” had seen the video from inside the elevator. BuzzFeed News has reached out to King for confirmation.

Why is this relevant? This happened, and SHE MARRIED HIM AFTER THE FACT.
Obviously she didn't press charges, he wasn't arrested, was he? .........so why is the NFL involved re: whether he plays or not? B/c someone leaked video footage of the incident?
If the guy in the office next to me beat the hell out of his fiancee and she didn't do anything about it - no one at work would ever know. He wouldn't be suspended/fired etc for it .........
I get he's to some degree a public figure - but hello, you can't be paying know felons millions of dollars to play football, and then try to make an example out of ONE person because of a picture - ......... Yeah, b/c the rest of the NFL is full of upstanding citizens ....? Please.

This bothers me because it's an isolated incident (his termination, not him beating her) - IF the NFL was planning to put something in place to terminate all of these pieces of sh*t - then, yeah - I'm all for it.
But I feel like this is just a knee jerk reaction re: public opinion . NOT th say this guy isn't a pig, b/c he is ..........but I just don't think it's right, professionally, do terminate him, and none of the others .........KWIM?
