WASHINGTON — The federal government has sent hundreds of ventilators and other equipment this week to help Florida respond to a record number of Covid hospitalizations.
The devices, which came from the federal government's Strategic National Stockpile, included 200 ventilators and 100 smaller breathing devices and related supplies, said an official of the Department of Health and Human Services.
A record number of people have been hospitalized in Florida in a surge of Covid infections being driven largely by the unvaccinated, public health officials have said.
On Tuesday, 14,787 people were hospitalized for Covid-19, 145 percent more than during the state's previous peak in July 2020, according to the Florida Hospital Association. Nearly 90 percent of the state's intensive care beds were in use, and 85 percent of all patient beds were filled, the group said.

It’s not really leadership in my opinion if you’re rallying for no masks, threatening entities if they require them, but then you’re requesting ventilators from the government.

Great, so go back to last year and kill everyone again.
I think the approach now is to wait to put a patient on a vent until they absolutely have to. It’s definitely not a good sign if they need to put you on one.

In that article is says that Desantis was not even aware of this so who knows who is telling the truth.

Seriously? Many people with COVID still require a ventilator to help them breath. Those who are put on a vent are SERIOUSLY ill and many will not recover. But ventilators are an important part of treating many people with COVID. PLEASE do some research.
The fact that ventilators need to be sent to FL is an indication of how bad things are there and that numbers are rising in a significant way.

Gov. Ron DeSantis said he was unaware of the federal allocation when he was asked about it Tuesday by WPLG-TV of Miami, which first reported on the ventilators.
"I have not heard about that, so I have to check to see if that's true or not," he told the station. "I would honestly doubt that that's true, but I'll look. We have a lot of stuff that we stockpiled over the last year and a half through the Department of Emergency Management. I have not had any requests across my desk. I haven't been notified of that."

i dont think by FL Gov saying he didnt know about it makes it untrue!!
why would the WH lie about it?
if anything makes me think he has no idea whats going on.
the WH so far has not come back and say they are incorrect. guess only time will tell
ETA: they did request it but not because they were currently in a shortage. They wanted them as backups

They didn’t lie. I get throwing jabs at each other though it’s uncalled for and ridiculous but I don’t think the WH would intentionally just create a lie and then stick to it after being called out.

After Gov. Ron DeSantis’ denial that Florida requested COVID-19 supplies prompted a back and forth with the White House, DeSantis said Wednesday his denial wasn’t inaccurate, rather the way the reporter asked the question caused confusion.
A reporter asked DeSantis Tuesday about a request from Florida’s Division of Emergency Management to the federal government for “respirators.” DeSantis said he hadn’t heard anything about that. And the Governor was right, because the request from Florida was for 300 ventilators.
“I was asked about respirators, which are actually different. And so, we’ve never really had any hospitals ask about it,” DeSantis clarified speaking to reporters at a press conference in Jacksonville Thursday.
