Transition between flooring in kitchen tile and LV hardwood floor?
Our house is on a slab. We have a Levitt ranch. So kitchen and LV are divided by the fireplace.
We have carpet in our LV and tile in the kitchen.
We have to get rid of the carpet. With 2 dogs it's just so dirty I can't have DS play on the floor.
DH and I like hardwood floor but since it's a slab they would have to do a subfloor with would "raise" the LV floor vs the kitchen.
Do you think that would look bad?

Is cement underneath the carpet? If so, there's no need to raise the floor. You just need to put a protective covering on the cement to prevent moisture from being exposed to the wood floor. Are you installing real wood floors or laminate?

Is cement underneath the carpet? If so, there's no need to raise the floor. You just need to put a protective covering on the cement to prevent moisture from being exposed to the wood floor. Are you installing real wood floors or laminate?
Yes, it's cement.
I must have plywood/subfloor to install real wood. I may need plywood/plywood for laminate if slab if uneven

It depends. Floating wood floors can be installed over concrete with a moisture barrier. A slight dip will not hurt a floating wood or laminate floor. We have laminate in our home over a slab for years without any problems. The floor was not completely even.
 Oh and to answer your question, it will look fine if you raise it. You'll just need the proper transition strip.

I agree that it would look fine if you raise it. You can get a transition piece that slopes up.

I have a high ranch and I am on a slab. we have real hardwoods (not floating)- we did a subfloor because we were worried about water and it made it even. we have tile in the kitchen, and DH just used more cement to make the kitchen tile even and we have a metal saddle.
but i think a slight dip is ok - we have one from the floor to the bathroom we used a marble saddle that has a slant in it already
