Toy suggestions for a sensory seeking child?

DS LOVES to jump. Any suggestions on toys good for sensory seeking children? Our therapist mentioned something like a ball you jump on? He's 26 months, so I think too young for a trampoline.

Best thing to do is get a cheap exercise ball from walmart, push it up against the couch, have your child jump on it while you stand in front of it stablizing it with you legs and holding you sons hands or hold onto his hips. You can make up your own jumping song or turn on some music. After he's done jumping he can lie on the floor and you can roll the ball over him for some more deep proprioceptive input.

You can also make up songs to jump on the floor too, 'let's hop like a bunny, hop hop hop....'. And hop around the room. You can be a frog or a kangaroo too!

If you have those foam letter squares, you can lie them on the floor in a straight line and he can jump from one to the other. You can put puzzle pieces on one end and the puzzle board on the other. He can pick up a piece or two, hop, hop, hop, hop and put the piece in the board. Then he can run back to get another piece or hop back or roll back.... Now the it's getting warmer you can draw the squares in the driveway and play outside. There is so much you can do to help a sensory seeker. Just keep it structured, you be in control and keep your child from becoming overstimulated and disorganized. Ball pits are also great you can get them everywhere now, they look like little tents that you fill up with the ball pit balls. You can hide things in there for him to search for and retrieve.

Re: Toy suggestions for a sensory seeking child?

we had this trampoline for DS when he started EI at 15 months old. he LOVED it and he learned to jump...

we also used a yoga ball and DS loved that as well... what about a hippity hop? we never got one because DS used the yoga ball, but those things are great.

We have a trampoline with a bar, a therapy ball that he only uses with help and a dizzy disc. The dizzy disc is something the therapist left, but basically it's a sit and spin without the handle coming up the middle. DS uses and will ask for all of them at different times.
