tipping question for hairdresser - EDITED

I have been going to a great hairdresser for the past 3 months -- she gets my color perfect, does really skilled haircuts and perfect blowouts and doesn't charge a lot (single process, cut and blowout is $115 and this is NYC)! How much do you think I should tip her? I will be back in the salon right at the end of the year so I feel like I should bring something. I have only been going to this salon and using her for a few months though. Thoughts?

ETA - I meant a holiday tip/present. I don't think I made that really clear above!

Re: tipping question for hairdresser

i pay around the same - i live on long island - i usually tip around $20 and my hairdresser is the owner - i also give the shampoo girl $5.
I tip around the 20 mark when my hair is close to $100 - i think that is a reasonable tip.

Re: tipping question for hairdresser

I got mine cut today in LI. It came to 50 and I gave 12.

I plan on giving 20 when I go next time, closer to the holidays.

Re: tipping question for hairdresser

I always give 20% no matter how much the service is. Last time I was was there it was $235. I gave $47 to my girl and $5 to the lady who washed my hair.

ETA - I am going back in the beginning of December so I plan on giving the normal tip and then a giftcard for probably $50. I have been going to her for 2 years.

Re: tipping question for hairdresser - EDITED

i am a hairstylist and i can tell you anythng is appreciated..but $ is the best of course.

what is reallly nice is .... if you normally give 20....to give 40. if you normally give 10 give 20.

you dont have to of course...and sometimes it even so nice to get a card saying how much you appreciate them! the thought goes a long way!!!!
