Is an hour and a half far away? We see them about once every other month.

Re: Those who live far from their in-laws...

We see FIL about twice a month. He's very ill, so we try to visit as often as we can. We see MIL on holidays, birthdays and once in a while in between. They both only live about an hour away.

My parents live 350 miles away, and I feel like we probably see them more than MIL.

I chose 3-4 times a year, but it might be more like 4-5.. Its not every other month, although I really think it should be, but time just gets away from us.. I think once we have kids we will try to go more often so that his parents can part of their lives.

They live in the Binghamton area - about 4 hours away.

Re: Those who live far from their in-laws (at least an hour drive)...

My in-laws live in FL and we see them 4-6x a year. My MIL comes up a few times a year, and we try to go down by them once a year.

But if they are here for a week, we see them maybe 3 days (they usually stay with my SIL).

Sometimes I feel like we spend more time with his family than we do with my own, and they only live 20 minutes away.

Mne are in FL but they have a small apt. up here too. They are up at least every other month for 2 weeks minimum. When they are up they expect to see the kids every day. Chat Icon

They snowbird so we only see them at Christmas during the winter and maybe if we can fly down and visit with them during the Feb/Mar time (usually not) and in the summer they live in CT. so we may go up a couple of weekends during the summer and see them.

DH sees his parents almost every weekend. They live about 30 minutes away.

we used to only see them about 2-3 times a year, but since we had the kids we see everyone about once a month. its double for us because they are divorced so we're having twice monthly visits.

I'm the opposite. My inlaws live 5 miles away, but my parent's live upstate, and we see them about 1x every other month.

Re: Those who live far from their in-laws (at least an hour drive)...

My parents live an hour from me. I either go visit home (long island!) or meet them in PA (we have a house there) at the very least every 3 weeks. I do not want to only see them once a month. That does not do it for me.

It's hard to not see them and you feel like you are out of the loop. My other caveat (and it may work in your situation) is that I tell my DH that I will go whenever I need to --- he can not (and would not) stop me. SO, I make my plans and invite him. If he wants to or his schedule allows him to come with me -- fine, but if it doesn't I still go. Maybe your husband can make the trip more often to see his mom!
