those that know Disney....

DH has a convention in January at WDW. Should I go down with him? You can stay at nice hotels and do spa treatments and stuff right?? What about the restaurants?

I think he can choose which hotel we stay at-- and I guess we can pay the difference of what his company won't cover.

Re: those that know Disney....

what goes on there--- what's the night life like? What time do things shut down? Trying to figure out when the best time would be to go down around DH's convention schedule?

Re: those that know Disney....

We went 2 years ago in November. We went to a few parks and it wasnt crowded at all.

I forgot which resort we stayed at but it was chic little apartment style condos. DEf adult place i saw no kids in this resort so there are places like that.
We ended up with a massage one day, facial the next, and body scrub the day afer that.

Re: those that know Disney....

The Grand Floridian is beautiful and has Spa treatments, a beautiful beach, beautiful pools and is across from WDW. I thought the night life was always so tacky, we'd just go to Epcot every night and stay in the different countries drinking different beers and wines from around the world, I think they close around 11pm or so. By the end of the day you'll get back to the hotel bu 11:30, and you can always go to the bars near the pools at th hotel, and then up to bedChat Icon

Re: those that know Disney....

thanks guys-- the Grand Floridan looks like my pick so far of the places that I have looked-- plus I like that the spa is right there. If I have to fend for myself during the day when DH is working-- I want things to be close by.

Any other suggestions on hotels and restaurants and daytime activities that can be done either alone or with DH?

OMG GO!!!! January is perfect because it's after the busy holiday season. The spa's are supposed to be out of this world, especially the one at Grand Floridian. I was supposed to go there for a massage on my HM this past week but couldn't because I'm 8 wks pg. There is so much to do and see. You won't regret going. Chat Icon

ETA: Restaurants are great there! Depending on what you like, check out Boma at Animal Kingdom, Yachtsman Steakhouse, and dinner or breakfast at Cinderella's Castle in the Magic Kingdom. If you want more variety, Epcot has some really amazing places in the World Showcase. There was an italian restaurant and a mexican place which which were fabulous.

Beach Club resort is gorgeous. it's in the boardwalk area (lots of nightlife) and it's very close to MGM and EPCOT, both more adult friendly parks.

There's a lot of nightlife at pleasure island until I think about 2am on weeknights, golf, sp treatments, relaxing poolside (or lakeside)

And January is one of the least crowded times. We have gone and not waited for anything more than 10 minutes. We walked right on to space mountain. it's fantastic. I say GO

Re: those that know Disney....

I just got back from Disney on Sunday, we go pretty much every year. There is a ton of things to do. Go to Down town Disney for night life, there is plenty. Not sure about resorts, I always stay at my sisters time share.
In October, November it is the food and wine festival at Epcot. It is great!!! You can walk around and eat and drink at different country's. I love Epcot! There is many restaurants to eat at and plenty of alcohol with or without the food festival. I feel that Epcot is more of an adult park.
Go and have fun!!

The Grand Floridan is beautiful and so close to Magic Kingdom. You probably can see the fire works every night from your room. Also, they have buses, trams and boats to take you around to the different parks, you don't even need a car really.
Epcot and Magic Kingdom closed at 12am when I went last week. That was a Friday night, not sure about other weekday nights.

Disney is great anytime of year. Everyone is a kid at disney.

January is a little cold, but not like NY cold. I went to Universal in January and wore a sweatshirt and a t-shirt underneath and was fine. If I got warm I just tied the sweatshirt around my waist.

The pools are usually heated. It was about 50 degrees or so and my DH and I were in the pool.

You'll have a blast

Re: those that know Disney....

Animal Kingdom Lodge has a great restaraunt.

Le Cellier steakhouse at the Canada Pavillion

The Japanese restaraunt at the Japan Pavillion.

Inf act you could sent your whole trip just eating at all the different countries!

I love lunch in the castle as well.

Call up 1 407 WDW DINE and they will give you suggestions.

I love January. No lines. Some days it might be 75 degrees, some days 50. But it's awesome, very little rain
