To a brand new year to a healthier me

This morning at 10 am when i was getting ready to go out
I heard a knock on my door, i did not answer it because i was getting dressed, after i got changed i looked out the window i saw 3 jehovahs leaving my property.. i did not answer the door but when i was going out this morning i saw they left a little present a booklet... the title of it is called Christ's coming how does it affect you?next time how do i say it politely 'not' to come to my house?

i had a jehovah's witness approach me at the supermarket once and her opening line was "are you happy with your current religion?"...i gave her a big smile and said "yes...i am...thank you for asking!", gave her a pat on the back and strolled down aisle...i dont think that was the answer she was expecting.

thanks ladies... i just got scared this morning because i just got up and i heard this knocking at my door while i was getting changed real fast to see who it was... i thought it was a neighbor knocking at my door.

I used to work with a woman who was a JW, but I didn't know it for a while.
We became very friendly. she was so sweet and extremely intelligent. one day we were talking and she told me she was a JW, I was shocked! I had never known one before (that I knew about anyway). she told me how she, her DH and a bunch of others go preaching about 2x a month. totally harmless, it's just what they do. and in all the years we worked together, she never once preached to me or anything like that.

If you tell them you are Jewish they will run away. I did this as a kid and they went running like it was the NYC Marathon.

One of the women I work with (in my classroom, she's one of my paras) is a Witness and she is such a wonderful woman. Her friend works there too also and they are two of the kindest women I work with, willing to help out in any way and so possitive.
She has never tried to preach to me or anything, but I do see her feeling uncomfortable during the kids' birthday celebrations and stuff like that in the class. I just respect it and give her the space she needs at that time, and I think she extends the same thing to me. She is actually very private about her faith and personal life.
I think a lot of us get caught off guard, or maybe put our guard up when JW's come to the door. I am sure there are exceptions, as there are with any religion, but usually I think that if you just tell them thank you but I am not interested, that they will move on.

Funny story..this happened to my friend.
She had these people come to her door and before opening the door she said out loud..."You gotta be f-ing kidding me!" Not realizing that her daughter was right behind her, she opened her door and her 2 year old daughter said..."Are you f-ing kidding me?" to these people.
They left after that....

I had one last week and I didn't answer the door. It makes me very uncomfortable. In my own religion, we don't look to add members and don't really believe in missionaries. I was also uncomfortable because the person had her young child with her. I don't believe that is the way to spend a Saturday with a child, especially when they may go to homes where people aren't so nice. But I guess it's not my place to judge and I guess that some people think that doing the work of their religion is the perfect way to spend a Saturday with their child.

I don't see a problem with it. Better than someone trying to break into your house and steal or harm you.

So funny you should mention this.
DH's mom was a practicing JW and he had to go with her on Saturdays to do her pioneer work. DH HATED it and never was baptized into that religion.
He said what made it even worse was that he'd sometimes get into fights at school (beating up the bullies who bothered DH's friends) and then DH would end up on that kid's doorstep on Saturday with him mom hoping that the kid did not tell on him.
DH said that nobody was ever mean to them. However, that could be because his dad had a thriving auto repair shop that everyone in the area used and nobody likes to give up a good mechanic

I did this once, and the reply I got was "Well, Jesus was a Jew"
ETA: They are harmless, we see them around our area quite often. The first time they came to our door was let them know we were not interested and poliltely asked they skip our house on future outings.

You could opt to not answer the door...
If you choose to answer the door you can politely decline their booklets/lecture
They don't mean any harm, it is part of their religion...
When I was getting married,a parent of one of my students gave me two copies of their marriage "booklet" ...one for me and one for DH - I respectfully took it- and actually glanced through it as well- she knows I am Cathlolic, she wasn't trying to change my religion

The Jewish excuse never worked for me (I really am Jewish). DH's mom tells them that she can't talk because it's her sabbath. She says it works.

My MIL is JW. My DH used to have to go with her to knock on doors when he was a teen. He said people would do the oddest things to try and get rid of them. One time they knocked on a mans door and he answered NAKED with a beer in his hand. .
I think that if you have to answer the door then just tell them nicely you are not interested at all and for them to please not return.

the last time they were here i yelled like bloody hell and told them never to come back. they had one hand on our open door and one foot practically in the house and they refused to let my husband come back inside. i saw this happening and went nuts.
i'm sorry but if someone comes to MY house uninvited and refuses to leave, they're going to incur my wrath. how do i know if they really are JW or if the other people they were with were staking out the layout/contents of my house by standing at the door for so long and looking inside? i won't take any chances and i HATE when people preach to me about anything. go away!

Yes, I would just tell them "no thank you"
Anytime I had someone come to the door and said "no thank you" they just left without a problem...
Now if this would only work with my Grandmother and other various family members who are rude and say whatever pops into their head!
