Re: thinking of a new car any thoughts

I think it's a great idea.... if you're already due for a new vehicle, it's the ideal time to buy......

from my mindset (prius owner here), I think you might want to consider something spacious, yet more fuel eficient than a standard small SUV or minivan.

what are those cars called that are crossovers between minivans and sedans again Chat Icon they look like modern / stylish stationwagons, for lack of a better analogy.

at any rate, I think the monthly payments are the least of anyones' worries these days... it's much more so what you pay at the pump, so I guess the goal would be large and super-fuel-efficient Chat Icon

Re: thinking of a new car any thoughts

I just bought a 2008 Honda CR-V. I did alot of research on all SUV's. I actually did all the research when I was pg so I was big into child safty features and this one has alot. I got the EX-L which is the leather seats bc I wanted seat warmers. But they have cloth seats and those go for about 19K. They are having a special on them too so it should def be in your price range. It's really great on gas. I drive alot and I find I put gas in almost every two weeks. 12-13 days.

Good luck!!

New cars are nice but if you don't need one I personally wouldn't take on a car payment with a new baby coming but that's just me.

I also got the EX-L. You could definetly go down to the middle model EX and maybe get more in your price range. I love mine!!

I agree. We had a car coming off lease, so needed a new car. We got a VW Jetta. It actually has more trunk space than the Matrix we are turning back in and the small SUVs, plus a lot more safety features STANDARD.

Re: thinking of a new car any thoughts

Honestly, I would be more concerned with fuel efficiency than the cost of a car whether you lease, finance or buy in cash. Gas will kill ya with the added expense of a new baby too. Just something to consider.

Whatever you get make sure you think about if your going to have more than 1 baby anytime soon. I'm on baby #2 and am so undecided about my next car b/c so many people that have SUVs or crossovers are saying they arent big enough for 2 babies!!

Re: thinking of a new car any thoughts

one more car plug....... mineChat Icon

the prius.... I get about 50 mpg (I spend about 35% less than with last car.... my honda civic!), and while it isn't SUV size, it IS a midsized car with a load of trunk space, and a backseat that splits and can partially or fully fold-down, if necessary. we've never had a problem fitting everything we need.

Also, mine has stability control (the most golden safety feature, if I do declare), keyless entry / alarm, all the airbags, and the latch system.

Definitely do the gas math. try to get your new car to have better milage than your old car....... or else that gas bill (I suspect gas will be $5/gallon within a year or 2) will be a huge burdon.
