The Tinder Swindler

Anyone watch this? It’s surreal that these women gave so much money.

Re: The Tinder Swindler

It’s on Netflix. It’s a two hour documentary.

It’s kind of like a catfish— more of a conman thing.

Oh I have to check it out... I find these stories fascinating.
I just finished a podcast called Sweet Bobby that was about a catfishing story that was off the wall!

This is the newspaper article they talk about in the documentary. It might have spoilers, though. I read it after I watched.

Watching now. Can’t believe these women gave him so much money. All the “enemies” he had would have made me suspicious. I just read he went back on tinder even after he went to jail (5 months).

I watched it Friday night. I do not understand how these women can be so incredibly stupid. I don't think I would even loan a family member that kind of money.

Money aside (it’s easy for us to see it in hindsight), the first woman got on a private jet within 24 hours of knowing him. Hello? Trafficking?

And she was upset that internet trolls were calling her a gold digger. Hello?! Who would actually do what she did?! And then they said she was only dating him about a month before agreeing to move in together. I guess I could never fall for that b/c love bombing grosses me out.

Yes just the overall stupidity and nativity is overwhelming. Maybe if it was a 15 year old but these were adult women. When I was in my 20s I could never get over my friends going home with guys they never met. I am a generally untrusting person thou.

Yes, this. So much this. I was young and dumb and did really stupid things. But I did not take out 250,000 in high-interest loans. I especially didn't do this when I was 30 years old.

I think my stupidest age was around 22-23. Then my brain developed. But, no, I didn't take out loans or lend money.

I had questionable hookups, but I was pretty safe about it. I was also in my early 20s. After 25, I shaped up. I'd love to start a thread with stupid shit we did, but that's probably not a good idea. Chat Icon Chat Icon

But there is no way I would have gotten on a plane at 30 years old to Bulgaria, especially when trafficking is in the news now.

ETA: I trusted my gut intuition. This woman had some sort of gut intuition. Just the fact that she texted to her friend YOLO kind of says that she knew something was up. You can kind of tell what her body language was like on that flight. I wonder if Observe (great youtuber on body language) will do something on that.

We all did stupid things but mine were more along the line of had too much to drink and did something I would regret in the morning. Not months and months of stupidity ignoring many warning signs. That’s not a hindsight is 20/20 situation. That’s someone who is so shallow that they ignore common sense.

Yeah, one time things are my stupid things.

The first woman is what just blows my mind. She got 250,000 in loans in something like 4 months' time. That is very odd. I read the loan situation in Norway is very difficult, but you can get high-interest loans easily. But you can't just claim bankruptcy. I can understand that because credit cards don't really exist in Germany like they do in the US. I assume the process is something like that in Norway.

The second woman got off easy with just 40,000. It seems like she got more out of the "deal." The first one didn't get much out of it except for empty promises.

That being said, it's slimy what he did. He's not a good person.

The third woman is a queen. I loved that she sold his clothing.

Right - the 250k in loans - come ON!!!!

And yes the third was great although she did put herself in a very risky situation with him. But selling the clothes was GREAT.

Re: The Tinder Swindler

There was a similar documentary, I can't remember the name. But it was about a con man that conned like 20 women out of millions of dollars. Took their whole life savings. But he did it in a way that was not as obvious. He was actually marrying them and then taking loans without them knowing etc. They all ended up uniting and finding him and he's in jail now. Even in jail he is so narcistic. But those women, I felt they truly got duped. What these girls did was just stupid.
