The Official Weight Loss SUPPORT Thread (formally known as VENTING thread)

I know that sometimes people do not share their struggles and I feel that sharing your stories about any difficulties, moments of weakness, etc. might really help.

I think it is so important to share the good but to also vent the bad and just let it go. It is amazing how just coming out and admitting to an obstacle can put you back on track by just helping you to let it go!

Also, PLEASE try to offer advice and support!

I'm in. My struggle: Working 12 hours a day and not having time/energy to get to the gym. I wanted to get back into it this week, but I have bus duty which means I can't go before work. I'm going to try to go twice after work this week though.

Re: The Official Weight Loss VENTING Thread

My struggle: being tired. I used to exercise religiously quite a few years ago. Granted I was much younger but used to work out between 5-7 day. I would go after work. Then I started grad school full time and would only exercise occasionally. However I took the subway to school and would walk a lot. Once I graduated, I started working 2 jobs- 1 full time and 1 part time. I would work weeknights until 10 PM (if not later) and one day on the weekend 2:30-10 PM. I became so tired and really didn't go to the gym. I put on 8 pounds in 3 weeks after switching birth control pills and had a really hard time taking the weight off. Once it started to come off, DH was diagnosed with cancer and I just started eating. I was still working 2 jobs, trying to take care of DH (at that time FH), and have some me time. I joined WW June 2005 and did lose some weight. I started to exercise 2 times a week and made a point to be more active. After the wedding, I got laid off of my part time job and now suddenly had all this time on my hands! Great! Well, I started to exercise again and boom! something happens. I either get sick or become so tired during the day that I can't function. I love exercising and feel so good after a workout. However, I can't get on a set schedule. I have to do something (although I don't know what) so that I am not tired all the time.

Ok, so it turned out to be more of a vent, but this is my weight loss issue.

Thanks for listening! Chat Icon

Re: The Official Weight Loss VENTING Thread

All of my issues are with food:

1. Eating when I'm not hungry/Not stopping when I'm "full": I have gotten much better at this in recent months.
2. Making better choices when I got out to eat.

I'm trying WW for the millionth time and I'm really trying to follow the philosophy of it, rather then tell myself I'm on a diet. Hoping this time it sticks.

My Issue;

I switched from the day shift to the night shift about 5 months ago...for some reason i am having a hard time making good food choices now...its wierd but when I worked days it was much easier..I also have no energy to exercise since working nights.. I am trying really hard to figure this out..I think should I work out in the morning when I get home?? but truth be told my nights are sometimes sooo exhausting I cannot even think about it..but today I have vowed to be better ...so we will see what happens.

Thanks for listening

Re: The Official Weight Loss VENTING Thread

UGH . . . WHERE do I BEGIN?

I am TOTALLY off of my exercise routine. I am just too tired to do the transfirmer when I get home. I would like to get into a routine of walking at night but am WAY too tired after only getting less than 4 hours of sleep last night, so maybe I will start tomorrow. My leader basically said that people set themselves up for failure with exercise because they try to establish a routine that is too long and tedious for what they can really work into their life style. So I will see how walking goes . . . .

AND . . . .

Back to work means back to lunch duty, and staring me right in the face every day are two delicious food items:

1) huge, under-cooked chocolate chip cookies (which I have managed to stay away from)

2) Giant soft pretzels

The pretzels are killer. I had part of one on Friday and most of one today. I try to share it with the teachers and aides that have lunch duty with me so I do not eat the entire thing, but I should really stay away PERIOD!

Oh, and just let me add, that it is NOT a good idea to go to a nighttime baseball game and wait to eat until after. Points left or not (in my case I HAD the points), TACO BELL at 1:00 in the MORNING is NOT a good idea . . . .

Re: The Official Weight Loss VENTING Thread

PMS is a huge problem for me. I just can't control my cravings that week or two a month, and it manages to undo any good I do during the rest of the month.

Re: The Official Weight Loss VENTING Thread

My problem is eating where everyone else eats for lunch because you want to be social at work, but they eat at places that don't have healthy options. I try to order the healthiest thing I can find on the menu, but it is still very high in calories.

My current issue is that I have zero motivation to go back to the gym and have no idea how to get motivated again. Before I met DH, I used to work out 5-6 times a week. That dwindled a bit, but back in March, I started WW again and was going to the gym about 4-5 times a week. I was doing great up until we went away in July and now I have not been to the gym since the first week in August and honestly, I have no desire to go back even though I know I should. Chat Icon

Are we just venting, or offering suggestions too?

My issue is getting started. I haven't worked out in a very long time & I think I have some sort of psychological block preventing me from starting.

Re: The Official Weight Loss VENTING Thread

i definitely have food issues. i do okay on the exercise end, running 3 times a week and doing lots of races. but i more than make up for it by eating all the time. and every week i start out good, but then i'll have like one chocolate bar or something and in my mind i think "well i already screwed up i might as well eat whatever and try again next week". i had lost 18 pounds on ww, but now i've gained 10 back. i'd be happy if i could lose 8 of them again...

UUGGHHHH I HATE this! It happened to me today. We were going to the Italian cafe by work and I was ready to order a greek salad (no dressing). I even brought my own Italian Spritzer dressing to work with me so I could bring it to lunch. Well, the bagel store was suggested and everyone agreed and I was not going to put up a fight since everyone else agreed, so I did my best.

_______________________________

DEFINITELY offer suggestions. I thought this would be nice- almost like a support group where we are venting our struggles from day to day. We log our food and post the positives and these are so important, but I also think it is so important to be honest and vent our obstacles, so that they are dealt with and we can move on with the positive.

________________________________

Azad- I can totally relate to the counting points thing- sometimes it just stinks! And as for the 8 healthy guidelines, they are just not something I can commit to all of the time either- you are not alone! I think as long as you are putting effort towards doing some of them you are in good shape. It's not always all or nothing. Be proud for those things you are doing. Try adding in one guideline at a time. I am going to try and get back into doing the same.

I too have always followed this pattern of "well I already screwed up . . ." This can be your worst enemy. I know for myself when this happens, it is just my excuse to give up because it is just so much easier for me to eat whatever, whenever, in whatever quantity.

The best thing you can do is isolate your "screw up" and move past it when it happens. Do not make it an opportunity to just give up all together. You have to take things one meal at a time. When you throw your effort to the wind over one screw up, you are multiplying the damage. No one is perfect 100% of the time, but recovering from a pitfall makes you feel way better than throwing caution to the wind . . . .
