I work for the utility and we are all on Condition Red notice. I'm not sure how much we'll get hit but we are certainly preparing for it.

There goes my Labor Day weekend!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: The official look at Earl and his impact on us (Mini update Tues)

so you're saying now that it looks like we'll just be getting a lot of rain or on/off showers on LI? I'm so nervous after watching the Weather Channel last night!

This is technically all we were looking at in the beginning. In reality, nothing has changed with the track of this storm in the past few days.

I believe some of the islands in the outer banks are now evacuating.....I'm about 3 hours away so I'm wondering how bad this is going to be......

Now go out and stock up on water (to mix with your scotch), batteries (for your vibrator) and food (for your drunken munchies) and put on your big kid underwear. I will update as necessary.

If only it were that simple for those of us with horses to worry about, though...

Still, I'm really not panicking as it looks extremely unlikely we'll be getting a hurricane... Tropical storm possibility(while still dangerous) is a little bit easier to deal with from a horse-management perspective. Rain/wind is a regular occurrence and no big deal.

I was not making light of the situation for everybody. Of course people with outdoor animals should take extra precautions. People with outdoor umbrellas and canopies should take precaution. The close you are to Montauk, the more precautions you should take. ANYBODY on the shoreline should take precaution. We are further East. We are tying some stuff down on our deck. Do we think it is necessary? No. But what does it hurt?

Everything? No. Stuff that can float in 40-50 mph winds, yes.

Possible for a few showers or clouds in the morning, but nothing big.
