They just turned off the phone comments which one one probably listened to anyway. Send an email or write a letter. People need to stop making stories out of nothing.

So when does it get scary? If ONE thing alone had happened maybe I'd agree. But these things are all happening one at a time and painting a big picture. Limiting access to share your concerns. Censoring what can be posted online. Restricting federal agencies' ability to tweet and communicate with the public. How about that when the twitter accounts were transferred, THOUSANDS of people who had unfollowed or NEVER followed the POTUS and FLOTUS and VP accounts were suddenly following them - even people who had actively BLOCKED those accounts.

Tell me. When is it okay to be scared?

Oh for the love of god...

They didn't stop all communication, they changed their preferred method.

You can go to the public library and use their computers for free if you don't have one. That's what I used to do.

And not everyone lives close to a library.

So, honestly, you don't think this was done in any way to keep people from being able to give input. You honestly don't believe the administration that is putting gag orders on departments like the EPA is doing any of this for any reason other than, well, what reason could he have?
Come on! We know he will hide information, lie, cheat to get what he wants.
Sorry, but each day he does something just to chip away at our security in checks and balances. Guess this is what we have now. Hopefully the rest of the government has gotten at least some of the message with the protests ALL OVER THE COUNTRY the other day and maybe, just maybe they will realize they need to be concerned for their jobs.

They didn't put gag orders either. They are limiting who can speak to the press, which should have been in place already and I'm surprised it was not.

I'm curious if the people who say this is nbd have read a history book, ever. Do you think dictators took over in one fell swoop? Lots of small, quiet maneuvers and steps are what has led to EVERY SINGLE fascist regime in history. So please tell me what your line is. What needs to happen for you to be scared?

They are talking control of what information gets to the public from taxpayer funded scientific studies. I'm sorry but I find that scary especially coming from an administration that flat out says they value economics over protecting the environment.

Well since this is a democratic republic and there are 3 branches of government which Trump only being one of them, I have no fear of him becoming a dictator. Also the max he can serve is only 8 years so again, no fear for a dictatorship.

If people really read what he wants to do it's take away power from the federal government and give it back to the states, where it belongs.

I completely agree. We are seeing a rise in the deliberate censorship and misdirection of information from our own government. Are we that blind?

Germany was a democracy in 1930. And in 1939 millions of Jews began being rounded up and killed.

Look. Am I saying that's going to happen here? probably not. But why ignore that the man in power is taking actionable steps to limit democracy? Like, why ignore that?

That's just not true that they don't have a phone. I'm not even sure why you would think that. There are tons of seniors (and I am sure other people, too) who don't know how to use a computer, and a landline is their only way to access the outside world.

I really would love just one person on here who defends this guy to flat out say "look, I don't give a shit that he hates women and minorities, and that he is slowly chipping away at the tenets of democracy, because he promised to lower my taxes and that's the bottom line for me."

Which, btw for most middle class Americans won't even end up being true!

THIS is how dictators come into power.

They promise you the world, play on your worst fears and make things seem worse then they are, they try to silence the media and the people, and then they slowly start taking actions on the sly hoping nobody will notice just how well they are being snowed and manipulated because they are all too busy with their red hats chanting, "MAGA"!!!

Be afraid America, be VERY afraid.

Guys....calm down....Let's be logical. There's no reason to worry about an 8 year, or even 4 year term, because his views on the environment will destroy the earth before that happens.

I don't find him limiting democracy at all. I'm not going to argue a Hitler analogy because I don't see a comparison at all. If I ever was going to do a comparison it would have been to FDR who stayed longer that 8 years (which is why term limits were placed) and sent the Japanese to concentration camps. He was a democrat. Times change and just how the government saw fault with FDR being president for so long and corrected that going forward, they will correct whatever Trump does, if he does anything at all.

The epitome of privilege is being able to take a wait and see approach when others' rights and safety and even their lives are at risk.

Sorry, but that's gross.

Actually. Not sorry.

He hasn't done anything yet to take away anyone's rights. If he does then I will respond accordingly.

I have said it many many times that I am NOT pro Trump, I am a Republican. If he does something that is taking way American's rights then I would gladly say so. I have not seen that yet (with the exception of the Secretary of Education and I voiced my concerns about that) and I am not going to jump on a bandwagon because of something that may happen. My issue is that posts like this one from the op is sensationalizing things that just aren't true. Taking away a phone number is not censorship and to think that is is just ridiculous. Saying that there are gag orders being issues, isn't the truth. They are limiting who can speak to the press. Just like every business does and the US Government is like a big business.

I AM the OP.

Closing the investigation into Flint takes away their right to clean water. Repealing the ACA takes away women's rights to pump at work. He has also vowed to look into repealing same-sex marriage legislation. Taking a phone number was just ONE piece of what I posted about, that you seem to be harping on while ignoring the rest. They aren't just limiting who can speak to the PRESS, they are limiting things like what the USDA can share with the PUBLIC - researched funded by TAXPAYER DOLLARS is no longer allowed to be disseminated publicly. THAT IS CENSORSHIP and these things DESERVE to be sensationalized.

I've been calling the comment line for years. I finally got through on the switchboard (different from the comment line) and was told that they don't know when it will be back on. All of the comments are noted and archived. It's important for citizens to be heard, and in different ways. This really doesn't feel right.

It is NOT like a big business.

And you can feel free to take a "wait and see" approach. Many others obviously feel that is not a very pragmatic approach. Like closing the barn door once the horse is out. We can wait and see if he will do some of the things he has suggested he would like to do, ie., Muslim registry, or building a gigantic wall that we could never ever pay for or secure, rolling back social programs or environmental agencies or giving giant corporations (you know, like he still owns) bigger tax breaks - that sort of thing. If we wait until he does it, I think it'll be much harder to fix it. So, I personally would rather make the rest of the government aware that many of these things are not OK by a lot of their constituents. Since we can't personally go to him and explain our feelings, our representatives need to be made aware.

Well since this is a democratic republic and there are 3 branches of government which Trump only being one of them, I have no fear of him becoming a dictator. Also the max he can serve is only 8 years so again, no fear for a dictatorship.

If people really read what he wants to do it's take away power from the federal government and give it back to the states, where it belongs.

UGH. Because Congress is totally on the peoples side.

Germany was a democracy in 1930. And in 1939 millions of Jews began being rounded up and killed.

Look. Am I saying that's going to happen here? probably not. But why ignore that the man in power is taking actionable steps to limit democracy? Like, why ignore that?

I don't find him limiting democracy at all. I'm not going to argue a Hitler analogy because I don't see a comparison at all. If I ever was going to do a comparison it would have been to FDR who stayed longer that 8 years (which is why term limits were placed) and sent the Japanese to concentration camps. He was a democrat. Times change and just how the government saw fault with FDR being president for so long and corrected that going forward, they will correct whatever Trum

The Flint investigation was closed in December. So blame Congress not Trump. He has not taken away ACA yet and wants to replace it so lets see what it is replaced with before we start complaining about what is lost.

The EPA released this statement which was on CBS news:

The EPA, in an official statement, said Monday that the e-mail was aimed at making responses to the press, GAO and Inspector General more efficient, consistent and coordinated. The EPA said officials would still be allowed to talk after they checked in with representatives.

"There is nothing...that restricts conversation between enforcement staff, the press, GAO and the IG and the procedure is consistent with existing agency policies," the statement said.

This is common practice with all large businesses and I'm sure many of the jobs that the majority of people here work for.
